Apple Loses Patent Lawsuit, Could End Paying About A Billion Dollars In Damages by Superstar007(m): 12:55pm On Oct 14, 2015
A U.S jury has ruled that Apple used
technology patented by the University of
Wisconsin - Madison in its iPhones and iPad
processors.

The Wisconsin Alumni Research foundation
sued Apple (WARF) sued Apple in January
2014 alleging that A7, A8, A8X processors
used in the IPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and 6 plus
as well as many versions of the iPad used
technology developed by the University and
patented in 1998.

Apple Inc. had denied infringing on the
patent and had previously petitioned the
U.S Patent and Trademark Office to review
the patent's validity but the bid was
rejected by the Agency in April.

According to a ruling by U.S. District Judge,
William Conley presiding over the case,
Apple could be liable for up to $862.4 in
damages for the use of the technology. The
figure may go up if the company is found to
have infringed on the patent willingly.

The same patent has been used to sue a
major technology company, it was used
against Intel, although Intel settled on the
eve of the trial.

Last month, WARF sued Apple again for its
use of the technology in its newest A9 and
A9X chips used in it recently released
iPhone 6s, 6s plus and the iPad pro.
