Perhaps looking to gain a march on the mainstream media, at 4am CET on Tuesday morning, FIFA announced the Ballon d’Or 2015 23-man shortlist.

It seems almost certain that the final 3-man shortlist will be Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
Despite his goal scoring exploits for Real Madrid it would also be a huge surprise were Leo Messi not to win it after guiding Barcelona to a glorious treble.

Last season the final shortlist included Messi, Ronaldo and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is included again.

The Premier League based players on the shortlist include Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and Yaya Toure.

At first glance it looks like this is more or less the 23 best players on the planet…
