A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mark Gbilah, has stated that the appointment of 36 ministers by an administration in one fell swoop is too much for a government that needs to cut costs.

Gbilah, who represents Gwer/Gwer West federal constituency, suggested an amendment of the section of the 1999 Constitution which provided for the appointment of ministers from each state of the federation in order to create room for staggered appointments of ministers from states.

The lawmaker, who spoke to reporters yesterday in Makurdi, said there was need to trim down the number of ministerial appointees at a time, so that the cost of governance could be reduced.

No sir. Mr. Mark Gbilah. If the government really wants to cut down on cost of governance, then we shd scrap the House of Representatives and lets only have the Senate. Like seriously, what is a 360 man House of Rep really doing in this country? What has been their input so far?

Alternatively, if we can't scrap the House of Reps, let all Nigerian lawmakers be on a fixed pay per month, salaries plus all allowances put togeda to be say N150,000 per month. Only then can we talk about cutting costs.

Yes, he wants to cut costs as long as he does not need to cut anything for himself.
That is the type of "body language" the "honourable" Rep is speaking cheesy cheesy

Well, the appointments have been made and 36 ministers have come to stay, but the cost of governance can still be pruned by compelling them ( and the senators and reps ) to take a huge pay cut.
Then only can the Nigerian people have some faith in this government.

Absolutely correct. It's makes no sense whatsoever why a relatively poor and underdeveloped Nigeria should have more than 18 ministers. It doesn't make sense.

But blacks beings blacks, will still hold on to an unworkable model or law. I understand them perfectly.
