Match Preview:

Manchester City will look to extend their
unbeaten run to six games in all competitions
when they host Crystal Palace in the League Cup
on Wednesday.

City’s impressive start to the campaign was
ended by defeats against West Ham and
Tottenham, which had the potential to send the
club on a downward spiral, but comprehensive
6-1 and 5-1 victories over Newcastle United and
Bournemouth ensured that they remained top of
the table.

They are 1st in Premier League with 22 points
and 7 out pof 10 won matches
Manchester City were superior over Sunderland
in the previous round of Capital One Cup and
convincingly won 4:1.

Pellegrini’s side won League Cup in the 2013-14
season when they defeated Sunderland in the
final, but were knocked out by Newcastle in the
third round last year.

Palace arrive in Manchester after two
disappointing defeats in the league against West
Ham and Leicester City, the loss at the King
Power Stadium on Saturday was particularly
frustrating for Alan Pardew, who saw a penalty
appeal waved away by referee Mike Dean.
Currently they are 7th in Premier League with 15
points and 5 won matches.

Crystal Palace won 4:1 against Charlton in the
previous round and played extra time to eliminate
Shrewsbury in the first round.
The Eagles have never won the League Cup and
have struggled to reach the latter stages over
the past few years, failing to reach the fourth
round of the competition since the 2011-12
campaign.

MATCH FACTS:

Manchester City were knocked out in the
fourth round last season by Newcastle, but had
won their four previous fourth round ties prior to
that.

This is the third League Cup meeting between
City and Palace, with both sides registering one
win each.

This is only the second time in 10 seasons
that Palace have reached the fourth round; they
reached the semi-finals in 2011/12, losing on
penalties to Cardiff.

The Citizens have scored 18 goals in their last
four home League Cup games.

Palace have failed to keep a clean-sheet in
any of their last seven away League Cup
meetings with Premier League sides, conceding
15 goals.

In their last 15 League Cup ties, Manchester
City are averaging 3 goals a game (45 goals in
total).

Palace kept a clean-sheet in their previous
away League Cup game at Walsall; they haven’t
kept two away clean-sheets in a row in the
competition since 1980.

Dwight Gayle has netted four goals in two
League Cup games this season. He has eight
goals in four League Cup appearances.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
The two sides met earlier this season when
Iheanacho struck in the 90th minute to hand City
a 1-0 victory at Selhurst Park.

Pellegrini’s men recorded a convincing 3-0 win
over the Eagles in their last meeting at the
Etihad when David Silva notched a brace, while
Yaya Toure also got on the scoresheet.

Over the course of history, City have fared better
in the contest by securing 25 victories compared
to Palace’s 15, while 12 of the matches have
ended in draws.

.TEAM NEWS

Manchester City are still without Sergio Aguero
(hamstring) and David Silva (ankle) due to injury,
while Pellegrini will also be without the services
of Fernandinho, who picked up his fifth booking
of the season against United earning him a one-
match suspension.

Wilfried Bony is expected to lead the line for the
Citizens, but Kelechi Iheanacho could feature
following his match-winning strike against the
Eagles earlier this season.

Manu Garcia and Patrick Roberts may also come
into contention for City on Wednesday. Samir
Nasri has returned to training this week, but the
game may come too soon for him to return to
the pitch.

Palace will be boosted by the return from
suspension of striker Dwight Gayle after he
missed their defeat to Leicester at the weekend,
and he is likely to replace Fraizer Campbell to
lead the line.

The Eagles are without left-back Pape Souare so
Adrian Mariappa will continue in his place, while
forwards Connor Wickham and Marouane
Chamakh are still out due to injury.
Wilfried Zaha could return to the starting lineup
after starting on the bench last week.

I hope Nacho gets enough playing time. I hope City plays well and wins. An early goal will give Pellegrini a chance to bring in Youngsters.

Come On Citizens, Come On Nacho.
