LaRochelle:
There are four things that are likely to happen when the deadline expires:
1. CBN fines bank customers who haven't registered.
2. CBN fines banks who have customers that have not yet registered.
3. CBN extends the deadline.
4. Those who haven't registered might lose their money in their accounts.

Since this is Nigeria, I'm betting on either 1 or 3 in the ratio of 30:70. My predictions are usually correctsmiley.

BVN biometrics was also done outside Nigeria. Your sister can still book appointment depending on where she resides.
BVN registration for those living in diaspora started late. I'm of the opinion that, that of diaspora may the extended.
I live in the US and have got mine.
The problem is that many were not initially interested. It took me some time to convince friends to get it done.
If your sister doesn't do it before traveling to Nigeria, then, too bad.

check dictionary for meaning of deadline. if they can sue Mtn 5bn without remorse, blocking a mere Nigerian's account for not obeying the law shouldn't be a problem.

It was a directive and not a law. There can be punishments for not beating the deadline but no person can take over your cheese like that.

#why is PMB keying into BVN like that, because the last thing I can remember was that I did mine when GEJ was still in power. They should stop tarnishing my guy's personality and yet, they still depend on his policies for directions.

It's not closing. As a matter of fact it's a continously exercise as in if you open a new account from next week you will do it immediately. The only thing about old account is if it's not done you won't be able to use e-banking and won't have access to official for ex transaction. So tell your sister not to loose her sleep.

Thanks.

It is just a few hours now for the expiration of deadline for the BVN registration. I have registered for mine, but my sister who resides overseas is yet to register and will be coming home in a month's time. Having saved some money towards her visit in her FirstBank account and yet to be registered, I feel so much worried as the deadline closes by.

The question on my mind has been, what will happen to millions of accounts that are yet to be registered before the deadline, and what hope do such account holders have thereafter. Let's share our knowledge on this.
nothing will happen.whenever she comes let her approach her bank and the bvn will be done for her else she wouldn't be able to operate the account.

Nothing significant will happen except PND (Post No Debit) will be placed on your account. That is you can deposit cash but can't withdraw.

Your account will b considered account with incomplete KYC (Know Your Customer) or documentation.

But as soon as BVN is provided, it will be normalized.

So it's better u sort it out now to avoid any inconveniences that will make u start blaming ur bank instead of accepting responsibility.

I called GTB about it months ago, and they said it can be done whenever I visit Nigeria. Only thing is that the account will become inactive until it's done.

So I don't think there's any cause for alarm.

I had already pointed out that it had been extended to December 2015 - https://www.nairaland.com/2669332/bvn-extended-december (I posted that on the 16th of October). OIS has also officially changed their website to reflect this.

It is a CBN directive and not a LAW,The worst that can happen is that the account is deactivated pending account holder meeting the banks requirements.

However, there are BVN registration points made avilable at most embassies abroad, your sister should avail the opportunity of registring herself by visiting the nearest nigerian embassy.

Seriously, nothing de happen this na naija
Its just a matter of she enrolling, then her account is released. The freeze is for a reason and once you satisfy the requirement, you have access to your fund. It doesn't take more than 10mins.

Banker's committee are working on a fixed charge for customers who have not done theirs. Meaning, you now have to pay for your BVN registration to be done.

This is a heartwarming news for account holders who are yet to be registered. It should be a continuous one for now, and should not carry any fine.
