Both of you are right.
Just a little misunderstanding/misplacement between both of you.
ITbomb is right in the sence that postal code is used for same purpose just like zipcode.
The only difference is that zipcode is only used in the USA.
tabisegroup is also saying that US doesn't use the postal codes used by other countries for mailing to other countries, rather they use the USPS (United States Postal Service) which has codes for overseas countries, which are used when handling deliveries.

To me the Op is making sence

America likes to be different. When they gained independence from Britain, they changed their way of life and English entirely. That's why we have American English and British English.

Zip code is what America uses while post/postal code is used by every other country.

When I fill online forms requesting for zip code, I input my Nigerian post code since I'm filling a Nigerian address and not an American address.

Poster is right on one hand and ITbomb as well.
