Nothing is impossible with collaboration or connivance. OP stated that his course adviser actively participated in the sham. It gets to a point that the adviser can't back out if he wants to. At that time, he will have to continue just to keep the secret taking solace in the countdown to the op's graduation, a time when relief would come to him.
