Contrary to popular doctrine that, the Holy Spirit (God) departs a believer when the believer goes astray, the bible actually postulates the father does not leave us. It is the believer that actually departs the Lord. This was illustrated by the Lord Jesus in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). In this parable, an apparently wealthy father has two sons, and the younger one rebels (sins) and leaves home. The father is a representation of God in this parable. When the son rebelled, the father did not leave his own home; neither did he drive his son away. Interestingly, He yearned and longed for the boy’s homecoming notwithstanding the son’s conduct.

In relation to our lives as believers, anytime we sin, we rebel against God. This does not cause God to depart us; rather we depart God just like the son in the case of the parable of the prodigal son. Yes, God detests sin, but he doesn’t disown you because you have sinned. Remember the bible says in Hebrew 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." If His word says He will not leave you, why do you still believe God has left you? Always remember God is not a man to lie (Numbers 23:19).

When you no longer know God’s presence, and feel His anointing, it isn’t that God has left you, but you have left him. It’s like sitting by a fire that never quenches, you definitely feeling the heat as long as you stay by it; but once you leave the presence of this fire, you will no longer feel the heat, remember the fire doesn’t leave. All you need to do is go back to the fire.
The good news is that, He is still at your door knocking (Revelations 3:20) and asking you to come back to him. All you need to do is to make that decision to return and his arms are wide open to welcome you and throw a party for you, yeah (Luke 15:22-24). What a loving father Jesus Christ is. Angels will rejoice in heaven (Luke 15:10) when a sinner repents.

Note that, this is not a leeway to be going back and forth in your relations with God. Always be guided by Hebrews 6:4-6 which states, “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Repent! And go back to Jesus; he is not mad at you. He was never mad at Moses, David and Saul (Paul), God bless you.
