It is now a norm to have our president dish out vital information concerning the nation only when he is abroad on a visit. In his visit to Iran, he made mention that looters in Nigeria are secretly returning the money they stole while in public office. While this is a good development in terms of anti-corruption fight, it is never enough if the war against corruption is to be won.

We need Mr President and his team of anti-corruption forces to expose the names of the looters who are alledged to be returning the stolen wealth. As far as I am concerned, Mr president's words might just be a form of propaganda to make the rest of the world believe he is on track in the war against corruption.

We need their names and the amount returned for the below reasons.

1. So we won't trust such people with power again

Returning the money without facing any form of punishment can automatically render such looters as saints who might go ahead and contest in subsequent elections. Without knowing who they are, Nigerians might make the same mistake of electing them into power again.

2. To know the amount each of them returned

If we don't know the amount getting returned by these looters, how are we going to be sure money ever got returned? How are we going to be sure such money is not being diverted or even looted by those currently in power? Giving us this information now will help in preventing the money from growing wings while a lesser amount is shown as the figure when enquiries are made.

3. To know how and where they stole it from

Returning the money is a way of trying to escape justice cos they believe they will be pardoned. Who is going to return the life of the people who died cos money meant for hospital facilities got looted or those that died from boko haram attacks cos money meant to equip our soldiers grew wings? Not publishing their names means this government is willing to pardon them. This will lead to a stop in investigation thereby preventing agencies from knowing where the money got stolen from and how or what methods were used so as to device preventive measures.

4. Prevent others from following the same part

Since every looter seems to be going scot-free just cos they returned the loot, public office holders might be encouraged to loot since there's an avenue to escape punishment which is- return the loot when hounded. What about the accummulated interest? A strict punishment should be served to those returning the loots.

This government made us believe during their election campaign that corrupt politicians will face the long arm of the law. Up till now, no one has gone tojail for looting. With the names of those returning looted money not published, it seems no one will.

The lies keeps clearing from my black people's eyes.

Well congrats to those that took this abyss of misery 2 decades backward in the name of change.

A leader who goes about the world telling them that his country breeds criminals.
They goes ahead to dish out fair tales to his loyal nitwits to scream from the rooftops.

This Government lacks the capacity to earn public trust by doing the needful. Mr President cannot list the names and the amount stolen and recovered, he lacks the courage.

No Looted Money Returned - CBN

On efforts by the central bank to assist the Buhari administration in its fight to stem corruption, the CBN governor said the bank will be happy to play a role once the opportunity presented itself and will be happy to receive recovered funds as they would improve the country’s reserves, but no money has been recovered to date.

nd to think his campaign was based on talks of jailing corrupt politicians.

I fear he may go down the way of GEJ.

Should the looters' names be published and they are persecuted, it will work against the loot returning process.
