A northern youth group, under the auspices of Arewa Triumphant Youth Foundation (ATYF), has appealed to members of the Movement of the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) agitating for a Biafran state to lay down their arms and allow peace to reign in the country.

The group said it would not be happy to see their brothers and sisters in the east of the country leave the Nigerian union, which it said the nation’s past leaders fought to keep together.
President of ATYF, Ibrahim Yusuf, spoke at a press conference, yesterday, to herald the activities lined up for a proposed Arewa Youth Leadership Summit, scheduled for later this month in Kaduna.

Yusuf said it was regrettable that major actors in the Biafra violence, Boko Haram insurgency, kidnapping, and Fulani herdsmen crisis across the country were youths.
“There is no point for our brothers and sisters in the east of the country to agitate to pull out of Nigeria. We are brothers, and we should be able to live together as one big family, nothing should separate us. MASSOB should lay down their arms, and allow us to stay together for the betterment of this great country.

“There is no doubt that 99 percent of these people that are into these various crises are young persons, and this is because they are jobless. To stop them from being violent, government at all levels must provide jobs and enabling environments for the youths to express themselves.
“President Buhari should fulfil his promise to pay N5,000 to unemployed persons in the country, even though I don’t support the idea of sharing money, because it may cause crisis, and make the people lazy.

“I will rather support the government to give the people nets to catch fish instead of giving them fish to eat. The government should work to rebuild the country of one nation, one vision and one goal.
“Government should realise that as one Nigeria, until it brings everybody together, the country will continue to have problem.”
The youth leader noted that since the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, they need to be well equipped to make them the strength of the nation.

“It is a well-known fact that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, it follows, therefore, that the youth, to a great extent if well equipped constitute the strength and workforce of a nation.
“In our societies today, majority of youths are faced with issues of ethnic, religious and political crisis, drug abuse, crime, violence, poverty, identity crisis, lack of self confidence and low self esteem.

“They are also confronted with a sense of hopelessness, confusion and ambiguity concerning moral issues, shifting economy, education disparity. All these have combined to instil fear in the hearts of many, thereby creating tension in the society.

“It is in response to these problems that our group has come and devised a means of inculcating right values into our youth to protect and teach them a peaceful and tolerant coexistence with one another by means of organising seminars/workshops, vocational activities and mentoring relationship programmes that will transform and raise a new generation of youths in the country,” Yusuf added.

We are brothers indeed, tell that to buhari , an old man whom we expect to be father of all, but is deliberately dragging our beloved country into anarchy with his aparthied system of govt.

Forced unity don't work, particularly one that has at its core the subjugation of the most resourceful African "tribe".
I read somewhere that Igbos make up most of the doctors, lawyers, engineers, technicians, and traders in the north.
The reason for that is because their region has been systematically de-invested and economically strangulated by decades of conspiracy by federal government controlled by northerners (even when Jonathan and Obasanjo were presidents these people still controlled all the strategic agencies of the federal government) aided by their willing slaves in middle belt and southern Nigeria. Meanwhile we get insulted by talks of how to behave before we can be trusted with the highest office.
Nigeria's disintegration is inevitable.
It is only a matter of time, because no parasite willingly leaves its host without some serious prodding.

The carnage caused by northern elements against our people is contrary to the claims of this northern youths.

This whole appeal because we want Biafra is very funny.

I am yet to see such condemnation and solidarity against Boko Haram from the north.

There is one thing Nnamdi Kanu said that I love, I mean an awusa man will leave his brothers in Niger and a Yoruba man will leave his brother in Benin republic to go to Biafra and start doing brother and sister with them? You guys have your brothers, go and meet them and leave us alone.

We are neighbours not brothers. Don't confuse things, please.

We are very different from each other. We have different values and aspirations for ourselves and for our peoples. Incase you are unaware, it is strong fences that make for good neighbours. Let us build our fences so that You can stay on your side and do whatever you wish with your family. We don't really care and don't wish to interfere with your values, culture and whatever it is you hold dear. It's your prerogative and we respect that. All we ask is that you also respect the fact that we want to live our lives in peace on our own terms.

We want to live on our side of the fence in peace. So let your elders and those amongst you that threaten us with war know that it makes no sense at all. But also let them know that we will not be bullied or intimidated into silence. We are not afraid of war.

'Live and let live . . .'

After more than 40years of Nigerian independence, the deaf has even realized that Ndigbo, huasa, Yoruba, Kanuri and etc are not brothers and sisters. Dishonesty, besides tribalism, is another drawback for Nigerian progressiveness. Please do not pity for Biafrans when they will be catching economic hard tine in Biafra. Simply remind them that " I told you".

Indeed we are brothers and its regretable that things of this nature is coming up among us. We are all Africans and also of the same race who have suffered a lot. I share your sentiments too. I wish we can be united and progress together as a country. However we must face reality and keep away from beating round the bush. No group in Nigeria has committed to building Nigeria like Ndigbo. East, West, North and South our population distribution and investments give testament to this. Igbo musicians have sang in other people's languages more than how others have sang in ours. Our writers have written and promoted other peoples traditions more than how others have promoted us. What about community development? My father personally built a concrete culvert in our area in the north. Till today its been used by all and sundry. Name any area where efforts for nation building were expended and Igbo man's name must be mentioned. How then will these same people who have done their best to be Nigerians have consistently been treated as foreigners in their own fathers's lands? Look at our regions! Total neglected to decay. See how the Nigerian policemen kill our young men with reckless abandon because the life of an Igbo man is of no worth in Nigeria. Any little conflict in the north must see to the killing of peaceful Ndigbo. Daily you see young people like you telling you that an Igbo man can never be the president of Nigeria and you begin to wonder what informed such a thought. When you ponder on that you discover that the kid only chews grass the way he saw the mother goat chewing. Then you realise that there's a fundamental problem which cannot just be wished away. The more you ponder the more reality stares you in the face. Your people are just numbers and nothing more. You realise that the lofty dreams you had as a kid to make Nigeria a great nation is but a mirage. Even if you are very brilliant by virtue of your origin there are positions you can never dream of occupying. While you are still analysing the situation, a barrage of insults and misrepresentation are poured against your people. You now begin to understand why some people bear the same name as you but deny being of the same ethnic group as you. They can't bear the pressure anymore. Some even change there names to all European names to mask their origin. Nigeria has dealt Ndigbo a big blow. Our ego has been bruised and our honour torn in tatters. Our lands divided for spoils while our people are neglected and marginalized. We all read about how some Nigerians during the 2013 Afcon were quick to label the super eagles a biafran team simply because Ndigbo were much in the squad without minding that that was the major thing which acts as a centripetal force among Nigerians. Those guys still brought glory to Nigeria. What else do you guys want us to do? We have taken enough of the abuse and denigration. We are tired of Nigeria and don't want to be part of her any longer. To you we are seeking to divide Nigeria but to us we're fighting for our survival.
