This is pour injustice, and if any one see nothing wrong with this, than something is wrong with that person. Just for 200 grams of weed with market value of less than 5k oh no. This is injustice.

In a sane clime, he would be sent to a rehab and not prison. 200g sounds more like something for personal use. This judge need to be called to order.

I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?

What kind of insanely stupid sentence is this? Life term for a 32yr old first offender, for a non-violent crime? Just 200g of Indian Hemp, and not even a major distributor at that, just a street retailer?

Someone should take up the case and appeal.

D judge is just confused or plain wicked. Y sentence someone to life for hemp. After all it has bin scientifically proven dat its medicinal.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday, sentenced a 32-year- old man, Lawrence Aluagu to life imprisonment, for drug trafficking.

Aluagu who is unemployed, was arraigned on March 8 and had pleaded guilty to the charge of dealing in drugs.

In her judgment, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia held that the convict should serve out his term in prison.

“The accused person is found guilty of the offence as charged, and is accordingly convicted.

“He is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment,’’ she said.

She ordered that the drugs should to be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Reviewing the facts earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, told the court that Aluagu committed the offence on Feb. 12.

He said that Aluagu was arrested under the bridge at Ojota, where he was reported to be in the business of selling hemp, and about 200 grammes of the substance was recovered from him.

“The offence contravened the provisions of sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004,’’ he said.

Aluagu, after admitting guilt, had urged the court to be lenient in sentencing him, as he was a first time offender.

This judgement is very unfair, the man pleaded guilty and going by the quantity involved there is no point wasting the 32 years old man's life in prison.

All Lawyers and Judges who have puffed Ganja at a point in their life or who are still regular users should come out to help this man file an appeal for weed sake!
