Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has come under serious criticism from fans, former players and journalists for playing what is seen by many as negative and defensive football. He has failed to guide the Red Devils, a club considered to be in the same level with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, to this year Champions League knockout stages. A lose to Wolfsburg in Germany left the Dutchman job hanging in the balance. Let’s now look at five men who can easily fill his gap at Old Trafford if the Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss is axed.

5. Ryan Giggs



Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs took charge of the team for few matches when David Moyes was sacked. When Dutchman Louis Van Gaal was appointed, he gave the Red Devils legend a chance to continue learning. Now fans believe he is ripe and ready to take over. He has expressed disapproval with his boss style of football though not publicly.



Reports suggest that he recently complained about James Wilson departure because as a United academy graduate, he was expected to remain at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Rafael da Silva sale did not go well with the former Wales International.



Fans believe that Giggs can bring back Manchester United brand of football that has quickly disappeared under Louis Van Gaal. Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich), Mauriccio Pochettino (Tottenham Hotspur) and Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid) are doing well as managers despite the fact that all of them achieved much less as players as compared to British most decorated footballer. They are also around the same age as Giggs.

Verdict; Not sure if Giggs is ready yet. But for a team like Man United that wants quick success, Giggs is not the man, but for the future i.e if they are ready to give him time and allow him to develop with them.
