It depends on the country and their labor laws. In the US, as a full time employee for a firm, even if you get fired or laid off, you are entitled to file for unemployment benefits. Your previous employer will be held accountable to pay you some stipends until you get another job - usually within a 3 to 4 month window. While receiving the unemployment checks, you are also able to request to be trained on a skill or certification that can help you get a job faster, the cost is on your previous employer as well.

Of course, it will depend on the basis of your job loss and the type of company you work for. A large company would rather pay you the unemployment checks than spend more on lawyers to fight your unemployment claim, a small or cheap company would often look for loopholes in the laws to avoid making the payment. That's why some of them try to limit your working hours to less than 40 hours a week. You're not technically considered a full time employee if you worked 39 hours or less a week, so you're not entitled to benefits reserved for full-time 40hr employees, including the unemployment benefits to save them on costs. Crazy right? You are right.is the same here in Spain.

Not sure if it's the same in Nigeria or other countries.

IF U ARE LEAVING URSELF U SHOULD GIVE A MONTH NOTICE TO BE PAID FOR THAT MONTH BUT IF U LEAVE SUDDENLY U LOSS D PAY IN LIU OF NOTICE. IF U RE SACKED SIMILAR THING HAPPENS, EG IF THEY JUST TERMINATE THE APPT ESP IN GOVT SERVICE THEY PAY U A MONTH SALARY OR THEY TELL U WHEN U WIL LEAVE SO THAT THEY PAY U. HOWEVER IF GOVT POLICY CHANGE AND THEY WAN LAY OFF SOME PEOPLE THEY WILL CALCULATE UR ENTITLEMENT DEPENDING ON UR LEVEL AND PAY U OFF

Exactly.
In Brazil,no matter the reason for job termination, you must be paid according to the duration you have worked. if you have worked for a year and above,be ready to smile home once your job is terminated. Nigeria is very far in human rights activities.

The labour law in Nigeria states that if you earn monthly, you are entitled to a month notice or payment for one month in lieu of notice.

As an employee too, you have to give ur employer one month notice or pay your employer one month in lieu of notice.

Ideally, most employement letters spell this out.
I guess things are done on monthly basis in Nigeria. All you need in the US is a 2 week notice. Most comeanies pay bi-weekly or weekly.
I know a few folks that own their businesses in Nigeria and don't pay their employees on time, or intentionally delay paying salaries to pursue other opportunities. That's a basis for a lawsuit in the US. So, I see the differences in both systems.

The letter of employment may provide for some form of payment. The word sack is mostly used when the employee has violated it's terms of contract and/or has done something wrong. Where there is no provision in the contract terms, a person sacked is not entitled to anything.

When a worker is sacked without issues of fraud or theft, the worker should be paid. Infact some companies pays the worker 3 months salary.

It depends on the company's HR policy as well as the reason for the SACK. Any fraud-related sack might not allow for any payment. But in some lay-off cases in banks, the ex-staff get paid off.

when sacked or dismissed you remain entitled to payment for the work already done but u will jot be entitled to gratuity unless your contract of employments specifically states you are still entitled to same in the event of a sack.
