Psalms 37:3-7(AMP)
KEY #1. TRUST IN THE LORD
Verse 3 – “Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on his faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.”
God wants us to consider him faithful enough to see us through every situation of life. Even when God seems so far away, when our situation seems hopeless, we ought to keep trusting him confidently. Trusting him enough to obey every single word he instructs us, no matter how foolish it might seem. Just like Peter after toiling all night and caught no single fish, Jesus showed up and asked him to let down his net, Peter thought it was a waste of time but he trusted his word and obeyed “at his word”, you know what happened afterwards [Luke 5:1-7]. Trusting in God means relying on his integrity, strength and ability. We are assured of dwelling in the land and feeding on God’s faithfulness when we trust God unconditionally.

KEY #2. DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD
Verse 4 – “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”
A dictionary defined the word “delight” as “a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment”. Take note of the phrase “high degree”. Until you come to a point in your walk with God when you get crazily passionate about God and his affairs, you just haven’t started. David said “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord” [Psalms 122:1]. The bible records that “David danced before the Lord with all his might…” [2 Samuel 6:14]. David danced so passionately till he almost went Naked and his wife Michal despised him. David was called a man after God’s own heart because of his passionate love for God. A lot of us are too cool and calculated about our service to God. We are very careful not to be mocked by people especially in this era when the world is going really crazy. We are more concerned about not being accused of being too religious. God wants us to get crazy about him and he has promised us when we do, he will give us the “desires and secret petitions of our heart” it’s that simple. When you make God your priority he will make you his priority.

KEY #3. COMMIT TO THE LORD
Verse 5 –”Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.
I always liken this to a parent who usually commits their little child to a day-care or childcare center in the morning before going about the day’s business. They often do so with the trust and assurance that their child will be fine and safe. That’s exactly how God wants us to relate with him. He said “casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you” [1 Peter 5:7] But the challenge we have is we decide the aspects of our lives we choose to commit to God and feel certain other areas are our personal business, but God is so interested in ALL our affairs and always wants to be a part of our daily lives. Like every responsible parents wants to always be there for their kids and wants to know their challenges, worries, needs and all, that’s how God wants to be with us. Even when we fall into sin, God still wants us to come back and confess and sincerely ask for forgiveness. He said “… I have loved thee with an everlasting love…” [Jeremiah 31:3]. “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” [Romans 8:38-39]

KEY #4. REST AND WAIT PATIENTLY IN THE LORD
Verse 7 – “Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for him and patiently lean yourself upon him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass”.
This is about the most challenging requirement from God to every believer. A lot of times we are always in a hurry and want quick answers and solutions. We always want it now! We need to understand that God’s ways are not ours. God’s time is always the best. Often times he may not show up when we want him to, but the fact remains he’s never late. Anytime God shows up is always the right time. We only need to align ourselves with God’s will for us. His will is always good and perfect. Let us not be in a hurry to seek alternatives, like the Israelites who urged Aaron to make them an alternative god (golden calf) after they ran out of patience waiting for Moses to come down from the mountain. [Exodus 32:1] No matter how long it takes we must wait on the Lord because he will always eventually show up.

As you obey the word of the Lord, I wish you a blessed 2016.
