It is good to know you have been consistent in paying 5k premium for your original Third Party Insurance cover. Please keep it up.

Every vehicle plying Nigerian roads should have at least a Third Party Insurance cover. It is statutory and compulsory under the Motor Vehicle (Third Party) Insurance Act of 1945.

As to your question, the 'function' of a Third Party Insurance cover is that the cover provides indemnity to the policy holder against legal liability to third parties for death, bodily injury and property damage.

It is erroneous to think that having an original third party insurance policy is only used for 'let my people go' situations involving police, road safety and VIO.

One can only imagine the precarious situation a car owner will be in if he or she knocks down a third party or pedestrian as an example and it was discovered by the authorities that the driver or car owner was driving without a valid or original third party insurance cover on place. That is an additional offence if eventually the driver was found culpable for the accident.
