Many beach lover have often fantasized about the long stretch of white sandy beaches, clear blue waters and the breathtaking view of the famous Bahamas. It is an island country consisting of 700 islands and over 2000 cays & islets. The island offers a glitzy mix of bustling cruise activities, a view of unspoiled marine life and a terrific hideaway at chic resorts.
Nassau, the nation’s capital is a major destination renowned for sprawling tourist activities, the Grand Bahamas and the Paradise Island which is home to the Atlantis resort are some its popular destinations.
The Bahamas Island is a tropical paradise which was once inhabited by pirates and Loyalists but it has since become a haven of fun and relaxation for tourists, it is often packed with fun seeking individual scuba diving and snorkelling at the Thunder Grotto, Andros Barrier Reef and the black coral gardens off Bimini. Many tourists enjoy fishing and sailing off the bustling cruise port of Nassau.
1. Grand Bahamas Island:
The Grand Bahama is the northernmost of the Bahamian Island and the closest to the United States. Its capital is the second largest city in the Bahamas. Visit Port Lucaya, the commercial hub of the Grand Bahamas with about a 100 outdoor stores, boutiques, restaurant and bar or Freeport’s international Bazaar, an ideal location for shopping and getting beautiful souvenirs. The island has the world’s largest underwater cave system, hire a boat out to the Port Lucaya Marina or take a Kayak of Barbary Beach to the Peterson Cay to see the beautiful reef, the gorgeous corals and the assorted aquatic life. The cay is perfect for diving, snorkelling and birdwatching activities. Bird watchers can enjoy the spectacular view of different bird species at the Rand Nature Centre, the lush plant life and diverse wildlife of the Garen of the groves.
2. Harbour Island:
The Harbour Island is famous for its pink sand beaches and chic resorts, it is the oldest settlement in the Bahamas and a hideaway for the rich. The streets are lined with English colonial styled cottages and golf carts are often seen around.
3. Long Island:
This beautiful island is known as one of the most scenic islands in the Bahamas. It lies in the southern Archipelago and is about 80 miles long. Long Island features beautiful pink and white sandy beaches on the west coast and rocky cliffs along the east. The island is suitable for diving, fishing and cruising. Dean's Blue Hole, the deepest sea water blue hole in the world is housed on the Long Island.
The famous Long Island sailing Regatta takes place at Salt Pond in the summer. A visit to the island is usually by air or ferry service from Nassau.
4. Atlantis:
A visit to Atlantis will have you feeling like you stepped into a fairytale. It has a fantasy sea theme that is only rivalled by the original Atlantis legend, its breathtaking pink sandy beach resort houses a luxury hotel, a Water Park, an aquarium and an entertainment complex. All guests at the hotel have automatic access to the 141-acre Aqua venture, over 20 pools, the waterscape which features high speed slides and can enjoy a mile long smooth River Ride. Here, you are privy to the view of hammerhead sharks and swordfishes swimming through sparkling open-air pools. Several stores, restaurants and relaxation centres are available for use.
5. Treasure Cay:
Treasure Cay Beach lies along the eastern shore of Great Abaco, it is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world. Its location in a high-end resort community which plays host to a popular fishing tournament in the Bahamas has made it a tourist delight.
