Signed for Netflix 3 days ago. Myself and Wifey watched 7 HD Movies, 1 Documentary, and 3 Episodes of a Series. Just within 3 days it has exhausted 60GB of Data from Swift that costs 25k. So I have decided to get rid of Netflix for now.

Nigeria is not Ripe for Netflix until our ISPs begin to Offer Fast and Unlimited Internet Subscription. DSTV appears to be the only Reasonably Priced option for now.

Lol 7HD movies and you expect it to be 3GB? The higher the video quality the more data consumed. Change your Netflix player settings to low quality. It's still better.

What did you expect when you watched 7 HD movies.
I guess the picture quality must have been 2K grin

For u to enjoy Netflix, subscribe to data that has no cap. (Unlimited). You can chek www.wifi.com.ng. It cos only about 9k a month and u have American ip to browse and watch any iptv. It's quite fast and low downtime. Thank me later.

Ha ha, I was telling someone Dstv explora box office is a better option for now until we have fast unlimited internet, or until all these network providers start offering unlimited Netflix streaming to their plans. On Dstv box office u get to keep a movie for 48hrs after renting, no buffering, just pay and watch. U can watch for as many times as u want within the 48 hrs. For Netflix u might end up using 700mb to watch a movie 1time (that is if ur internet is fine). Now to watch it again u still burn about 700mb of data, and lets say ur wife mssed the show and wants to watch if again u still burn about 700mb of data.

Why would I want to watch low quality movie when I have a full HD TV?

Just be a bit more patient my good friend. It is now inevitable.

Very soon data would be like pure water.

I remember back in the day 07/08 when Zoom (Visafone's predecessor) sold 3GB for 10K.

I don't think Netflix can stream in 1080p in Nigeria. It has to go through some approvals and only a few devices can stream in 1080p not to talk of 2k and 4k.

Maybe you're overmatching in the beginning.

My family (7 people all older than 11) spent 3 weeks in Canada and total internet usage was less than 300GB.

lmao!!! cheesy

You no know before? angry

HD movies are like 1.5/2GB per hour, now let's say you watched each movie for like 2 hours.

That's 2GB X 2 =4GB

>> 4GB X 7 = 28GB angry

>> 1 Documentary *Coughs* Let's say that one was like 2GB undecided

>> 3 Episodes of a Series.

Each Episode is about 40 minutes. Let's say Each Episode consumed 1GB

1GB X 3 =3GB

Oya 28GB + 2GB +3GB = 33GB

And If you're not rewinding while streaming it ought to require less bandwidth depending on the protocol you use though.

This is just an estimate though

Now where's the remaining 20+GB? Either you used it for other things or ya lying angry angry

Btw, pay me for my analysis. Tanchu! undecided

Dagunro movies on netflix. Remember its not irokotv. Its an international streaming company that bases her resolution on international standard. Originally Nigerian movies aren't 720p from the studio talkless of watching it at 720p on a streaming site. I think the best u can go for now is this Airtel and etisalat Netflix bundle.

CAUTION!!! don't watch Netflix with your data. Too deadly to behold

I remember when everyone was hailing netflix for coming to Nigeria. I thought to myself, "these people don't understand". Lol. . ..You need a dsl line to be able to run Netflix cheaply and effectively at home.

on average I use over 250G for netflix and my other internet usage every month here in Canada for a service that costs over CAD60.

i am not sure Nigeria is ready for that.

No service provider(MTN, glo airtel or etisalat) can provide you better deal except for rip-off.

my advice, just like the op said, say away from netflix.

OP, I totally feel your pain, and i agree with you that Nigeria is not ready for anything online streaming yet,and not only netflix. These stems from the fact that even our so called 'unlimited' data is actually capped, which you kinda experienced.
Last night a friend of mine slept off on d couch while watching netflix on a ps4 and left the series running back to back like olamide till morning , i saw the white boy and shook my head saying to myself.. comman try that in naija.

@op Was it worth it?

grin

If I'm desperate to watch Netflix, I will just goto school Jeje. where there is unlimited Internet and no restrictions. Also, Superfast.

Boys cap torrent downloads of over 100GB in a week.

Well, I'm part of people that do the damage also. enjoying my school fee

Kpom... I said it, streaming ain't cheap in Nigeria. Most developed countries can afford to stream media 24/7 because data is cheap. I will use UK as an example, An unlimited home wifi running on a basic adsl line ( i.e odinary telephone line) streaming at 3mbps to 7mbps usually cost around 8k equivalent a month, which is more than enough for 1080p videos.. Then those who download and want faster speed can get fibre cables connected for less than 14k unlimited a month.. With close to 40mbps speed. We can only dream of such at the moment in Nigeria, cost and availability is the main issue..
