THIS LIFE

This Life!

What hath mine eyes not beheld?

What hath mine ears not heard?

Wonders upon wonders have I
beheld

A plentiful lot have I heard

Of Friend betraying Friend

No longer doth trust abide;

Like snowflakes in summer

Like moon at noon

Is real trust and loyalty in this Iife.

What abominable lot hath I heard

Of father knowing daughter

Of mother knowing son

Cursed art thou, O this life!

For upon thy watch hath Man strayed

Far and far from glory divine.

Like Sodom and Gomorrah

This life hath become

I have heard,

Of man knowing man

Of woman knowing woman

Of woman knowing dog.

Oh Humanity, where art thou?

Where is thy glory, thy prestige?

What hath become of thine
blessed divinity?

Why strayest thou into obliterate oblivion?

'Tis so sad, this life,

Though a godly few abides still.
