Kenya's megaprojects: What can $50 billion do for a country?

By Kieron Monks, for CNN

Updated 1406 GMT (2206 HKT) January 18, 2016

Mombasa rail-station: Kenya is already an infrastructure power-house of East-Africa--leading the region for investment. But the next few years will see a quantum leap forward, with tens of billions of dollars to be spent on some of world most spectacular transport, energy and technology projects- such as the new Mombasa
railstation.

Kenya's ambitious infrastructure projects - with a total projected cost of roughly $50 billion - have the potential to transform the country over the next few years...

(Note: $50 Billion is roughly 12.5 Trillion Nigerian naira. Nigeria budget for 2016 is 6.? Trillion Nigerian naira)

And so what
What is the population of Luxembourg, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland or that of UAE that the Confused One is visiting again?
Again what has population or size got to do with progress?
Quantity is very different from quality oh!!!

Cities are centers of business, trade, Cities will always bring more money than the rest of the country (count out mineral resources), therefore, if you have 23million people living in one urbun place, obviosly you will generate more capital as compared to another country where the capital has a poulation of 4 million (BTW 60% of Kenyas GDP (approx USD40Billion) comes from the capital city with a population of 4 million - what if the population was 20 million?? ----- You know for cities in developing countries more population means a bigger market for companies, telecom, manufacturing companies,a bigger workforce for the service industry , it means you are able to generate more)

And dont try and comapre African cities with best cities to live in the world except for UAE, all those countries you've mentioned up there those countries ahave reached a level where they are innovation and technology driven economies, they passed their industrial revolution long time ago(I think it was during and just after world war 2), while we in Africa are still in agrerian revolution trying to cut a short-cut to catch up... As for UAE, thats a different case..... its a case of a country with very few people and alot of oil wealth, so much they dont know what to do with it, dont try compete with them, if they want to, they can build a city for each citizen

If you want to find out which city between Nairobi and Lagos is richer you should instead find out the GDP per capita to get a rouch Idea of who is richer...in terms of service to the people, health sector within the city, quality of education, general infrastructure, transport, peoples welfare.... As for right now, we have to become industrilised countries.... then after achiving that is when we can start working on becoming efficiency driven economies before becoming innovation driven
