Too many complexities in the use of shortcuts.

While inexperienced teachers may find this 'helpful' an experienced teacher knows otherwise. Students (especially primary school students) should be taught how to do pure calculations and not some tricks which will make them become mentally lazy. undecided undecided

I stand to be corrected though...

Nice work OP! At least, we adults can still tap into this 'annointing' tongue

Why do I keep running into you today self

Anyways, I once taught in a primary school. Believe me, using complex shortcuts to teach kids could be quite unrewarding. Maybe na those 'butty' them wey I teach sha O! tongue tongue

Here is it!

57 (100-43) x 57 (100-43)
43+43=86 , 100-86=14
First two digit will be 14
Now for the last two digit,
43x43=1849

Now it is evident that 1849 is no two digit number. What you have to do then is to push the first two digit (18) and add it to the initial first two digit (14) , you will then get 32. i.e 57x57=(18+14)49=3249

Now this works for all numbers smiley

Thanks for this man. More testimony in the house pls. Lalasticlala jamb go soon reach o. Make ppl solve maths b4 time up

I think this only works when the sum of the two digits is less than 10.
For example 67 * 11 isn't 6137.
It's 737. I stand to be corrected though.
Add 6+1 you get 7, that's the trick.

Tricks do not make people become mentaly lazy, it rather makes them more knowledgable.

Ask Albert Einstein who made use of Mnemonics in his brain to simplify complex calculations.

The objective of education is to understand and then use the understanding to become creative in whatever positive form.

Now this process is longer than the time it would have taken me to draw up a simple multiplication table for 57 X 57.
The hack is only fun when it's one way simple and does not have different rules else it defeats its sole purpose that is a shortcut.

67*11
6+7=13
6137
(6+1)37
= 737
Hence 67*11=737.

Its actually correct. 67x11 is 6+7=13 you then add the 1 to the 6 and it gives u 7. Then you have 737
e.g 77x11. 7+7=14. 1+7=8
Therefore we have 847

Well it is just for fun. But if you are conversant with maths u dont need all these. Some of them are waste of time esp the calendar date stuff.
