Onovo clearly had a bias against the government and is expected to, being a former Presidential candidate under the NCP. Even the interviewers asked him at some point if he was being a sore loser. Though that question was unnecessary as he is not expected to say he is a sore loser. However, Onovo took it too personal and turned the interview into more of a debate than a discussion. He was also very wrong in some of his analysis.
Onovo is double tongued and ironic in saying that we must accept our reality. He failed to see that this reality would need borrowing. Agreed that Buhari wasted some time in some of his appointments, and that the Budget(appropriation bill) is not the Bible. That point has already being overflogged. Onovo said that the CBN officially said that the 'directionlessness of the government' is hurting the economy. The Channels presenters simply asked him if they CBN truly said that. He was fumbling up and down. He doesn't seem to place much value on what he says, because several times when countered or asked to be elaborate, he was making excuses like "well maybe not those exact words". They asked him when the CBN say that, he was the one that said CBN OFFICIALLY said that. They asked for when and if the CBN said that. He started saying the media reported that. The interviewers said they didn't catch/hear that. He said maybe he will reference and send it to them. The Channels crew tried not to mislead the public, Onovo tried to mislead. He forgot that he is a stakeholder, being a former Presidential aspirant and that whatever he says people will pick.
Instead of him to respect his age and status, he was trying to play revenge on the lady interviewer. If anything, she's the one who took him to the cleaners. He was asking her when and where Buhari was late in appointing people. She reminded him it was public and common knowledge, from the date of inauguration in May till November, many people can attest to it. Unlike his statement that CBN officially said the government is directionless.
"The first concrete indication of a clue in direction was the budget", these were Onovo's words. Then he says we can infer the direction from the budget. These is contradictory to his earlier stance about directionlessness and the Channels presenters pointed this out to him. He started speaking grammar about budget of "ruination". He still continued attacking the female presenter, suggesting that maybe she will help Nigeria pay its debts. He made references to cutting recurrent expenditure but wasn't very practical. Everybody keeps saying that but don't say HOW.
He talks about medical tourism/check up. It is the same opposition that will attack buhari of dictatorship and not practicing democracy if he says nobody must use government money for health expenses abroad. It is the same opposition that will shout if government sacks workers. He talks about others taking a cue from the FG. How many cues have they taken since Buhari and co halfed their salaries, declared their assets etc? He suggests that Buhari should dictate the number of assistants and workers office holders must have. This guy clearly doesn't know how democratic government works. You approve my money, you don't tell me who must work with me. The president cannot decide how many assistants Fashola must employ.
Onovo makes a mistake by talking about borrowing 40% while only 30% is for capital expenditure. Has he forgotten that revenues dropped. Does commonsense not tell him that if you are not reducing salaries or sacking workers massively, if you are hoping to create employment and pay new workers, you definitely need to borrow? How will you not borrow when revenues have massively reduced and recurrent remains the same if not higher? He forgets about 1.4trillion for debt servicing.
The presenters were talking about people voting for a change of government, since they all seemd to be in agreement that the past government did not dop much with high revenues and oil selling at $100 per barrel. Onovo turned it into political argument as APC change theme. He started talking about electoral malpractice, underage voting, no void vote, bad courts. All these are no excuse as the APC also suffered from the same thing. There was electoral malpractice both i the North and the South, there was bad court judgement both in the North and the South. Buhari lost at the courts several times. Onovo made it seem like the courts are dancing to Buhari's tune which is not so.

Most people just seem to have a personal beef with the female presenter but she did nothing wrong really. She was more objective than Mr Onovo.
