Pls Help, Where Can I Get Fresh Oyster In Lagos? by Joy2Dwise1: 10:19am On Jun 29, 2009
I went to Agege market two weeks ago and could not find anywhere to buy oyster. Someone told me it's sold at Ajegunle and Liverpool market but I searched the whole markets this weekend and could not find it. Another colleague said they sell it at sunday market ogba yet I did not get any when i checked last week. In case you're wondering why i needed this badly, my wife is from okrika, last time i visited my in=laws, i was served with mgbe soup which is the best delicacy i've ever tested in my life, (try it if you think i'm bluffing). My wife has always wanted to prepere this for us but oyster is the only thing that is preventing my wife from fulfilling her promise. Abeg I no wan eat dis soup for dream. I promise to deliver a full plate of mgbe with any drink of your choice, to anyone who can help us out.

Thanks,

have you ever heard of oyster being sold anywhere in Lagos cos i've not undecided
honestly, i dont know anywhere oysters are being sold in Lagos or Nigeria in general. i dont believe they're caught in our coasts and those things are very preishable, so importing them can be a health hazard. maybe you should use periwinkles instead wink

Have you tried the Lagos waterside fish markets. Or ask any Rivers/Okrika people living in lagos if they know where oysters are sold. I think I might have seen the shells in lagos but not the oysters themselves maybe.

Do you mean oysters, clams or cockles, btw.

and yes, they're dangerous if they're not fresh, so be careful when buying some. Periwinkles should be a good substitute.

The Lagos variety is called mangrove oyster but i dont know if they're edible.

Thanks Tpiah & Dominique. Your input is quite helpful. Maybe we'll settle for the periwinkles which is quite common in Lagos. cry cry cry

I lived in Port-Harcourt where I ate oysters a whole lot. While in Lagos, I buy oysters at Yaba, Tejuosho market, downstairs. This was before the fire. It's seasonal though, and, not very popular so you have to ask to be directed.I hope you find it cos I know how you feel. However you could get the dried ones in Port-Harcourt. Good luck in your search and its sweet you want this for your wife.
