I am looking in the direction of the first generation Volvo XC90 SUV and want practical inputs from Nigerian users in Nigeria.

I have read some about it and have seen reviews, but I am particularly interested in Nigerian users experiences with the vehicle.

Caveat: I will appreciate if this thread is not derailed into canvassing for other car brands. Please keep it on the Volvo. Thank you.

I use an 06 Volvo. Quite a good and rugged car. Just maintain it well and it will treat you right. 3 years and counting, engine and transmission can't be any better. Parts are available at Alhaji Amusa Street in Iyana Isolo, and very cheap, especially for the type you want to get.

If that is what your heart desires, go for it and enjoy it. One thing I have learnt from the cars I use now is that: never allow anyone discourage you from buying your choice of cars.

By the way, I have every reason to complain about parts because I don't even reside in Lagos. But hey, I am not, because I hardly need them.

Xc90 5plug turbo engine good
Xc90 t6 engine needs more care
Xc90 t8 a little to sophisticated for the average mechanic
Overall u would enjoy the car

I used to respect your opinion and advise a lot on car talk section, but this particular comment made me realise you truly are not such an authority as I thought you were. Next time, instead of pretending to know it all , just tell the OP you truly don't know much about parts availability cos maybe u deal in other brands mainly.

To the OP, go to Alhaji amusa street, mushin, you'll see Volvo parts till you run for your life, and also very cheap and affordable too, anything you need, don't mind this man saying you'll cry when looking for parts

Thanks

Guy, Volvo parts are readily available and so so affordable, i repeat, readily available and so so affordable at Alhaji Musa. You can ask for Chimezie when you get to the shopping complex at Alhaja Musa street.

No hard feelings for you bro but I think this comment of yours is soooooooo uncalled for. seems like you have some sort of rivalry with Gazzuzz or you have been waiting for an opportunity to call him out.

Authority or not, no one person can know everything and that's not a crime.

Your choice of words isn't nice. Everyone is free to comment based on their experience. That doesn't mean you'd call someone out and use him for target practice. If you've got personal issues with the gentle man, why not settle it off you and hime man to man rather than resort to running him down online?

I don't know anything about the XC90, but a friend who is using it for about 3 years now has never complained about it.

I think it's a nice vehicle.

i have no rivalry with him and i havent been waiting for any opportunity, he is a well respected figuhe re on Nairaland car talk section and he should know the type of weight his comments should carry when spoken. If it were someone else who said that, i'll ignire cos even the OP might not take him so serious until the more authoritative figures comment, of which GAZZUZZ is one of them. Now imagine how he has thrown the OP so wide off the mark, preventing him to buy his dream ride on account of maybe one bad experience he must have had looking for parts.

Its better he told the OP what the truth is, which is that he don't know much about sourcing the XC90 parts instead of totally misinforming him that he'll cry about parts. If you love him and want him to improve then you should call him to order when he errs.

I personally have called him for advise on cars(if he'll remember, i called to ask of the risk of buying converted cars from right to left hand drive), and i took the advice he gave me wholeheartedly and abandoned purchase of that vehicle. Now imagine the belief i had in him and it happened that the info he gave me was indeed untrue, how would u feel. And this particular info about Volvo parts is untrue, they abound at isolo.

I don't have a personal beaf with anyone, and i repeat, i only bothered to call him out cos its him, if it were other less authoritative voices here, i would just have ignored. I only need them to serve us better. Thanks

I have no personal issues with anyone pls, why is it that nigerians hate criticism even when its warranted, so, i should sit and watch him misinform the OP?

I've happened to use a 2008 xc90 3.2 inline six, lovely SUV great engine. got parts from the USA at half the cost locally, things changed during the life of the vehicle:
1 fuel filter,
6 Denso iridium spark plugs,
2 front struts and camber bushings (due to high mileage)
6 oil changes with filter (mobil 1 ow-40)
1 A/C compressor and 1 evaporator sensor (acts as a thermostat/switch for the compressor also stops the evap from freezing and restricting the blower)
2 sets front brake pads 1 set rear

that's all folks

Thanks for info. I actually wanted to buy one but people keep saying the T5 is easier to manage. For me it is a little old. How is the behaviour of the 3.2 when used in flood prone areas? Are the local mechanics actually good at working on this vehicle or must it be taken to specialists at ladipo?

I do not live in Lagos. I've driven through 3 - 4ft of flood on a number of occasions and no issues, i did most of the work and repairs myself, there are tons of info on the web to guide you and your mechanic on various fixes. (i don't think you need a specialist) Nothing too difficult if you have the right tools for the job.

What model year of pathfinder do you own? Most people myself included find the 3.2 to be adequate. It's no pathy 4l v6 but it's close. Gas mileage hovers around 12.5 to 16.6 in the city. Now the 4.4 V8 by Yamaha is the engine you'd want, boy that thing is a force to be reckoned. Won't forget my first drive in a 2010 s80 v8.
