Just this morning, I got the most dreadful news. My engine is at its final laps. Mechanic said it's shorting oil and I need to sleeve it or I start saving up for new engine.

I'm beginning to enjoy this Aarrgh

How I wish Oga Gazzuzz live in Osogbo.

I remember the night before you picked up this corolla, I gave you an advise prior to purchasing (which now looks like a very valid concern I expressed).
Unfortunately, you would have to keep spending till you get it right or scrap this corolla.
The seller has successfully dropped his problem car into your yard. He saw all this coming and swerved them your way!!!!
What an expensive N700,000 plus lesson to learn!!!

Good evening Sirs,

I have decided to halt all works on the car for now due to light pocket.

I seemingly have two options here.
1. Spend enough money on the car to reshape it to almost factory form.

2. Allow kazeems to do patch work on the car and budget to buy another car within a year time.
I have been advised me to go route 2 cos it's a 3rd hand car and therefore I should not treat it like some luxury.

Personally, I would love to go route 1. This way, I'll learn my full lessons. I will also get to enjoy the car for a longer period of time efficiently. My pocket seem to be a factor here.
Although, I considered that option 1 is not necessarily cheaper than 2.

Experts... Kindly advise

Thanks

my advice for you is that you thread softly since i have experienced what you are going through. the car certainly has some faults but these faults will be exaggerated by your mechanics when they sense your desperation so as to make more money from you. i bought a naija used camry 2007 and had started saving for another car within 4 months of purchase. now here is my experience:
1. car stalled one evening while i was reversing out of the compound, the first mechanic said my engine don knock and bla bla bla. we pushed the car into my compound and an electrical guy was able to start the car but d automatic transmission was completely gone though it was giving some signs before then.
2. then came the AT specialist who said the problem was with d clutch fiber and pump. after a week of spending without any improvement, i discharged d guy and got a mechanic to change the automatic transmission within two month of purchase. after i got more enlightened about AT i realised d AT specialist guy just dey chop my money, as u can only access the strainer and valve body by removing the bottom plate of gearbox, the clutch fibres can only b accessed wen the whole gear is brought out from the car.
3. after 3 weeks of replacing gear the motor no gree start again ooo. the first electrical guy came and noticed no current to the start relay so he tapped current from somewhere and the car started
i moved around and after a stop, the throttle no gree work and the RPM rose to 3000. i just roll the car go my compound. four different electrical guys came around and same issue persisted- i drive out to work and car works fine and wen am returning the throttle fails RPM rises and i just roll the car home. all this while men they chop me seriously they suggested changing alternator, throttle body, brain box which i declined. luckily for me i got the electrical manual of the car and was by myself able to trace the fault to the park neutral switch on the gearbox as d culprit. got a used on for #1000, reset the brainbox as it was in limp mode and d car drives fine till today.
looking back now i only laugh, because mechanics fed fat from my ignorance and desperation. imagine it even got to the point that mechanics were calling me to bring in my car for routine check just to collect cash from me
pls take advices you get from this forum serious or else that car will be made a really nightmare by the kazeems you are visiting. cheers man

In the last 4 weeks I have been battling with clutch issues.
I have changed my clutch disk and plates about three times.
I am already counting my losses in terms of finance and precious time.

Here are the symptoms:
- It vibrates very vigorously in reverse gear. (This is the most annoying)
- Sometimes the gears will not function. It will be as if the gear is stuck in neutral. No acceleration possible.
- The last one (yesterday) the clutch was not functioning. I had to drive about 30km without the clutch function.

My new mechanic said the flywheel on the engine is damaged. He said he'll be talking it to the welder. I'm just confused here

Gurus in the house. Kindly help.

Who would buy it in present form? Remember about 700k was paid in former form?
Previous owner had seen and smelt all this trouble ahead(and carefully passed his troubles over).

What an expensive classic Toyota Corolla packed in the museum. With engine, clutch, gearbox, flywheel, clutchplate or without?

The flywheel was welded today and the car can walk again.
The mechanic said the Engine had been swapped before. He said the engine is not fully compatible with the car.

In summary, he advised I buy a new engine and gear system.

@mayor2013 If you'd pay 700k for this car, be my guest.

I started following this thread from the beginning even before u made full payment. U were quite adamant and dogged as if u were being manipulated from somewhere. Don't stop now. What u need is proper direction. I think u r spending money unnecessarily. Park the car and recover first. When u r ready, employ the services of gazzuz or mayor 2013. It may be expensive, but will give u desired result. If u do not wish to tow that line, get a good mechanic in ur area, buy the exact engine and transmission for that corolla and install. Economy is bad. People don't sell cars that much. They manage what they have.

Body needed only. We have only 40k cool. If I may ask why the welding of the flywheel

That's not funny. Guess I could use some humour.

He said the flywheel is the actual culprit. He needed to do some welding.
Today the same issue happened. I can't even think of reverse, it's a nightmare. It vibrates as if the engine needs freedom grin
He is suggesting I buy a tokunbo flywheel.

Gazzuzz, siena, Lexusgs430. Do you feel he's heading in the right direction?
How much is flywheel pls?

My main challenge right now is that the car is meant for a critical job. Infact, in my line of work it is almost impossible for me to not use the car except I can acquire/ rent a stop-gap vehicle.
I would have loved nothing more than to follow your advice.

Drive that car down to lagos for serious repair not praticals
Re: Just Bought a used Toyoto Corolla 2006 by DatechMan(m): 4:56pm On Mar 27, 2016
Gazzuzz, kingreign, lexusgs430, chynx, Siena, Ikenna351.
I thank everyone that has contributed so far.
My plan is to save up and bring the car to Lagos for fixing.
I am planning to obtain a stopgap vehicle before then.

The major problems include
1. Engine+Gear systems
2. Electrical problems.(wiring n temp gauge)

Please how much should I budget?

Thanks for your support

you need to be specific on what requires a replacement , and what requires a repair. Then the extent of repair work.

1. Engine + transmission to be replaced.

2. I can't say what might be the problems of the temp gauge. Other electrical issues include poor connections.

My Oga how much should I budget please. Kindly try to do a slight break down.

Thanks Boss

@op pele
From my experience;

- I run when a naija used car can be paid for installmentally.most times the owner just wants to recover the funds they have spent to get the vehicle working again

- I run when the price is too good to be true
- I run when its obvious I need to stop by at the mechanics before going home.

- I run when its a car that's been parked for a while.

- I run when they say AC needs gas.
Not to rub it in, I knew all these after buying several used car, that car has just started with you.

In all fairness, look at the engine bay,I don't need a soothsayer to tell me that that engine needs change.also, a manual corrolla @ 600k...that's too high.I have seen the car sold at 450k max and the only thing needed to me done on it was buy a jack.

Please drop the car.find cash to change the engine and some other needfuls......I repeat....change not repair or weld.....change it!

I have used 3 naija used cars before......be wise

I deeply appreciate your admonition.
I have made up my mind to follow the exact steps here.

I use the car for company work say Self-rental. Therefore it is not feasible for me to just park the car at once, I'll need a stopgap. I am working on renting/borrowing a car that I can use for the meantime until I fix the car.

Thank your once again Sir.

Oga GAZZUZZ I'm still waiting for your response.

from engine pics, and based on your complaints, you will need the following.

Engine and manual transmission(complete) ~200k engine ecu ~60k. Engine oil, gear oil, coolant. ~40k labour charges ??k

This is without any shortcuts

Got a 600k offer today for the car.
Though a part of me still don't wanna let go but I'm still thinking about it.
I will try to be sincere as possible with the guy. I think he's more interested in the body.

What do you guys advise.

Good Morning.
