Chelsea's Draw Celebrations Show The Depth The Club Has Fallen. by luciomoggi(m): 11:17pm On Feb 08, 2016
One Champions League, one Europa League, four EPL trophies, four FA Cups and three League Cups boasts Chelsea's trophy cabinet since Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich acquired the club in 2003 (13 years ago). Such is the hunger for success in West London that a season without a trophy is deemed a failure (ask Avram Grant). No European top team apart from Real Madrid have chopped off and keeps on changing it's managers since 2003 more than Chelsea .

In this short period, top class managers like Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho (twice), Avram Grant, Luis Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas Boas, Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez have all either been sacked or their contract not renewed. Consistency and stability are the two missing words in Stamford Bridge and in their place, "Success at whatever means" is the norm. In return, Chelsea have gone on to become the most successful English team in the last 13 years eclipsing the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the process (note -13 years not overall history). Chelsea are also the EPL and League Cup defending champions and have the players that can beat even the best team in Europe any day if properly managed.

It is in this regard that it becomes shocking to see the West London club in 13th place with 30 points and a goal difference deficit of -2. Chelsea are 23 points adrift of leaders Leicester City who are managed by the first managerial casualty of the Roman Abramovich era (Claudio Ranieri). It is disheartening to learn that the once formidable team that won the EPL trophy for the first time in 50 years with only one defeat in 2005, have now lost nine games, drawn nine and won only seven out of their 25 games this season.

With this statistics it has become more glaring that Chelsea have sunk so low that they now celebrate a draw at home like a win . This is a team that went 77 league games at home without suffering under former manager Jose Mourinho. The new norm of celebration draws in Stamford Bridge was the case when Everton (3-3) and Manchester United (1-1) visited this season. While the formidable teams of Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho during his first reign were never known for such attitude , the new Chelsea were once on the verge of relegation at a point this season. To cheer and celebrate a draw while 13th in the league and in the presence of the Russian owner simply shows how the mighty have fallen.

Chelsea have now broken a 28 years three games consecutive draw record in Stamford Bridge, as the draw against United last weekend made it four in a row at home, Guus Hiddink may be unbeaten since he took over in December, but he has also only won two games (away) and drawn five in his seven games reign in the league this season.

With Chelsea not challenging for the top four and more likely to lose out of the Europa league spot, the future might not be presently as bright as it used to. A busy summer with meticulous planning and signing is expected come end of the season but for now, Chelsea have turned to a team that cheers and celebrates draws .
