The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Commissioner, the Nigerian, Law Reforms Commission, Mr. Chibuike Okorie, and other stakeholders, on Monday, faulted the endorsement of the proposed ‘Anti-Social Media Bill’ by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, at the senate.

Stakeholders at the public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, on Monday, rejected the proposed Frivolous Petition Bill 2015.

The stakeholders which included legal practitioners in private and public practice, media practitioners, civil societies group and the academia, were unanimous in describing the bill as an act to frustrate the current anti-corruption war in the country.

However, the CJN, threw his weight behind the bill saying when passed, it would protect the interest of all.

Represented by Justice Clara Ogunbiyi of the Supreme Court, Mohammed said the bill was not out to gag the media.

He also urged Nigerians to support the controversial bill which was sponsored by Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah.
