My laptop: 11 years this march. Still works very fine. Plays HD video, surfs the net and plays music. Only reason I'd change it is speed but would give it till the end of this year/early next year before I consider that.
Used a brand new 2015-grade Lenovo yesterday; performed better than my system but the build felt plasticky and cheap, like something not made to last longer than some months - mine feels solid even many years after.

I still have my compaq presario from almost 20 years ago

@OP, What model of laptop can I get for not more than 100k. I will prefer it being portable, fast, great memory and long battery life. By being fast I mean fast in the speed of processing and browsing.

How to upgrade your old laptop into a modern one:

1. Change the battery of your old laptop to a new one

2. Get a new memory/processor of your old laptop and see it work faster and better

3. Upgrade the operation system to a modern once. From windows 7 to windows 8 or 10.

4. Clean Up the old laptop with leaning spray and see it shine like a new one.

$120 is around 50,000 naira and the minimum wage is 18000,please tell me(putting into the consideration: high cost of living in naija) how easy is it for everyone (some even living less than $1) to all have a laptop or are you willing to provide it for free?

i use a 2010 dell xps l501x laptop and as old as it is it still beats lots of recently made lappies out there as it is a core i7,2gb dedicated graphics,very rugged to mention but a few,so it all boils down to the configuration.
