Richard Nyong Detained At Panti Over Building Collapse by JAZES(m): 12:08pm On Mar 11, 2016
Following the collapse of a five-storey building under construction on Kushenla Road, Ikate Elegushi, Lekki on Tuesday, the Police on Thursday said Richard Nyong, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lekki Gardens, the construction company behind the collapsed building, has been detained at Panti Police Station.

Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Mrs. Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed Nyong’s arrest, said he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

On Wednesday, Governor Ambode had ordered all Directors of Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited to submit themselves to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, within the next twenty four hours or face immediate arrest.

Nyong complied with the directive and reported himself to the office of the Commissioner of Police in company of his lawyer, Mr. Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and was detained after interrogation.

It would be recalled that the Lagos State Government in the wake of the building collapse, revealed that preliminary reports and investigation, it was discovered that the collapsed building was served contravention notice for exceeding the approved floors and thereafter sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

The government also discovered that in a brazen act of defiance and impunity, the owners of the building, Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited, the promoters of Lekki Gardens, criminally unsealed the property and continued building beyond the approved floors until the unfortunate incident of Tuesday which has led to the death of over 30 persons.

Governor Ambode who is said to be irked at the spate of building collapse in the state had vowed to wield the big stick so as to put a stop to the disturbing trend.

Welcome to Lagos where there's a separate law for the rich, religious (I mean men of God) and the poor. undecided angry

The Governor himself advised them to surrender themselves to the Police. Iffa hear! If it was one poor man, the police would have arrested all his family members up to the third generation. undecided undecided

Since it's a sad and unfortunate incident that has to do with human lives, I wouldn't bother to check names. wink I pray all the victims of this unfortunate incident find rest in the world beyond. What else can I say self?

Oh! Second to comment! I'm gradually getting there.

Commendable action taken smiley

In some countries, the civil and structural engineers that designed that building will be facing death sentence, but in Nigeria, they will go scot free angry

The same man that defiantly broke the town planning rules and built houses across the main entrance of the Moremi housing scheme at Ajah. Causing untold hardship for land owners there. He has flexed his muscles enough and now the Almighty has decided to teach him a lesson in humility.

Naija and cutting corners are like bread and butter. They don't care about human lives, it's all about the money and how much quick profit they can rake in as soon as possible. Smh!

I bought a few properties from them for well over 50 million and as I write this piece, we are in court because they haven't been able t deliver a single one of them.
And you trust 9ja courts, only God knows when any judgement will be secured.
