Tales of Five Years

Like a branded jungle cat
Struggling for its emancipation
Am reminded of this pain
Born of Five years
Striving to break forth
From its imposed exile
While I travel back in time
Numb and lifeless lay the body
On the platform
Which gives rest to weary soul
The calm beautiful morning
Gives not an insight
To the mournful day
Sunshine goes about its business
Not a thing amiss
But for the thief of time
Creeping stealthily behind unforeseen shadows into the unsuspicious abode
And as a hungry panther
Pouncing on its prey
Carting away with the head
Without a care for its consequences
Trailing behind is broken souls and piercing screams on a deserted island
Man is cursed by this unavoidable fate
Only time and season unknown
Keeps the soul alive with hope
All taught and learnt
In the tales of Five years

Funeral drums sounding heavily and drawing near
Yet I stood aloof
Observing the procession
I heard her cry seasoned
With pain and grief
Giving off a sorrowful aroma
My mother
Her tears mingles with mine
But not a comforting word to utter
Mother earth opens wide her mouth
To receive her unannounced visitor
A final resting place
Quietly retreating back home
All mourners evaporate like the sun shine on the morning dew
We five gather around looking into each others eye
But none really seeing the other
Lost in the mist of tears
Caged in the memories of pain
Man is like water poured out onto the ground
All learnt and taught
In the tales of Five years

Heavily I sat, eyes roaming
For a comforting shoulder
But none found
And I was reminded
"You have your life to live"
He always reiterated
Picking up the pieces
I forged ahead with a new tool
Carving for myself a new path
Filled with opportunities
The Housefly does not blame the Creator for making it so small
What reason have I?
Life's full of pricks of pain
Embedded in colourful petals
The eyes carried away by its exceptional beauty craves to be felt by the hand subjecting the body to pain
All things beautiful are not all what it seems
All taught and learnt in the tales of Five years
