Observation they say is key, the power of observation helps avert looming dangers.
The fumes from the exhaust of your car tells you about the state of your engine if this is
Religiously observed, this could save you cost and the worries of corrective maintenance

Basically there are three colors of smoke that comes through your exhaust system these are the
Usual dark smoke and the white or light blue smoke let us see what this tells about our engine
State.

THICK DARK SMOKE
When dark smoke is noticed from your exhaust it’s an indication that your vehicle is burning fuel
This is because the fuel injected into the combustion chamber is not properly burned as a result
This unused fuel comes as black smoke.
The black smoke may also be an indication that the walls of your cylinder is wearing off notably
due to the presence of carbon build up in your engine.
There could be several factors to this abnormality as well.

AIR FUEL RATIO

Air fuel ratio could be described as the amount of fuel and air mixture, for
Proper combustion to take place there has to be a certain amount of air and fuel mixture
If the amount (ratio) of air mixing with fuel is low then certainly we ll have an incomplete
Combustion which could as well lead to black smokes

BAD TIMING CHAIN, ROCKER ARM, TAPPET RODS

The Importance of an engines timing gears can not be overemphasized, this is because they
Constitute a large percentage of the fuel management system.
A faulty rocker arm, bad timing gear or chain as the case may be, loose governor and tappet,
Or even a bad carburetor can also lead to black smoke.

WHITE /BLUE SMOKE

This abnormality simply explains one thing that your engine is burning oil.
There are several causes of this defect which I will highlight, this includes.

OVER FILLING THE SUMP
One of the resultant effects of over gauging your oil is this, this is usually done ignorantly just
To prevent oil shortage, when this occurs, the pressure generated by the engine while running
Pushes the excessive oils through tiny clearance from the rings to the combustion chamber to
Burn as fuel.

BAD OIL RINGS / FAULTY VALVE SEAL
A faulty valve seal or bad oil scraper rings can also allow oil leaks to the combustion
Chamber which results to the white smoke.

A proper heed to your car exhaust goes along way in telling you the true state of your engine
What you are doing wrong and what should be done to correct these anomalies.

Good Question, When you experience a situation where your car exhaust steams out water, there,s simply no cause for alarm cus it indicate an optimal level of health of your car engine.
In other words your engine combustion seems to be very good.
It also indicates that in a way you have a functional catalytic converter.
So kindly relax as there,s no cause to worry in this regards.

water steaming out from engine doesnt necessary means all is perfectly well with your engine .
Larger percentage of water coming out from exhaust stream is as a result of condensation of hot air buildup around the hot exhaust over the night when temperature was cold ,only a fractional part of the water formation is as result of chemical reaction due to complete combustion .Condensation is a natural cause in nature and the exhaust port serve as outlet conduit to remove it from your engine so that it doesn't mix with your engine oil .Hence, seeing water oozing out of exhaust in the morning does not necessary means that your engine is in perfect condition as popularly believe by laymen .
You can have a faulty cat and worn out ring in your engine and your engine will still be steaming water ,so doesn't be deceived .

Noted, it all sums up my explanation , signs of an engine that operates optimally, you do not get this sort of reaction from worn out engines if thats the case then please kindly inspect the head gasket.

You are a internet mechanic and i feel is good you leave you confort zone and go to the field to see for your self a lot of worn out engine that is still steaming and with head gasket intact. You are right ,worn head gasket can be responsible for steaming not every time .
