I have a question concerning this oil stuff, when I just freshly got my Nissan primera p11-144, I used mainly 20w-50, but I noticed whenever I'm going uphill the engine gives a crackling sound, I later moved to using 10w-40 grade of oil which reduced the sound and increased fuel economy a bit, when I went for my last service, I couldn't find the 10w-40 variant, as they only had 5w-20 which I decided to settle for. The engine runs very smoothly lately, the crackling sound has completely disappeared. My question now is that: is the 5w-20 too light for my engine, or can I continue using it Someone cited above that his head gasket blew off at high speed because of the light oil he used, would that also happen to my vehicle if I travel at really high speed... Those are my question

I have a different experience. I have been using 5w20 mobil1 oil full synthetic (later changed to high mileage) since 2014 and my car runs very smoothly with no issues. 2007 camry se mileage 131000 miles

I thought Mobil XHP was good. so are we to stop using it?
And what happens if you suddenly switch from one spec of oil to another does it have effect on the engine?

Virtually every mechanic recommends the use of 20w50 esp Mobil XHP.

This is despite the recommended 5W30/5w20 for most millennium cars (toyotas).

They say the reason is that once the mileage is above 100,000 it is better to use the heavier 20W50.

Please is this true?

What oil should be used in a 1999 toyota camry with 120k,2006 toyota sienna with 100k and 2006 toyota corolla with 90k miles.

For Cars from 2010 upwards: I recommend CASTROL EDGE, 5W40 or 10W40
For Cars from 2004 to 2009 or Mileage above 100,000kms: Use CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W40
For Cars earlier that 2003: use CASTROL GTX 20W50, or cars up to 150,000 mileage.

The reason why i recommend CASTROL Brand is because Castrol Engine oil has that sludge fighting ability as its the recommended oil for most of the PREMIUM CARS and SUV in use today>be it JAGUAR, BMW, LANDROVER, RANGE ROVER, MINI, AUDI...

CASTROL is not that cheap but very affordable compared to other Global brands.

ETERNA PLC is the sole LICENSEE of CASTROL in Nigeria.

CASTROL is not just oil, its FLUID ENGINEERING

before I can answer this question,I'll like to tell you that 20w/50,5w/30 etc talks about the viscosity of the oil, which means that it has to do with weather of the country. While the API of the lubricant deyermines the quality of the lubricant.

How much is the oil and filter for 2000 Lexus and 05 tundra

I don't have the filter for yours or less your car uses then filter as Toyota corolla 03-08.
O3-08 filter is that I have.

I bought it from Amazon.com for my personal use.
Your are recommended to use this oil with its filter or change any other filter insult for 2 to 3 times b4 the oil change. Because it's filter is 3 times capacity of other oil filter.

I have enjoyed the discussion so far. The missing point is the meaning of 5W30 or 20w50. These numbers are SAE classifications. The nuber before the w is actually refers to the lowest ambient temperature that will be experienced in the year. So goes for the number after w. Car manufacturers do nt consider Nigeria in their statistics because we are not their primary market. We do not evpetiece cold temperatures in Nigeria do the 5W or 10W doesn't really apply. The key thing to check is the S classifixation. The current class is class SN. Another major factor is the kinematic viscosity of the oil. Lots of motorists purchase oil with obsolete class like SG, SF etc. This is not good class of oil for modern engines. If you use a 20w50 engine oil in New York during the winter, the oil will freeze up in the morning but 5W30 won't because of the 5W. Do also note that there are things to note in the 5W engine oils. Some are synthetic and some are semi-synthetic. Synthetic oils are lab engineered and have light ends that tend to evaporate during use. Other engine oils are made from Crude oil. We can talk about this for a long time.

From the diagrams below weather temperature and engine temperature has a great role to play on the viscosity of oil u chose. 10w30 seems to be the best putting both temperature into consideration. Followed by 5w30 and 5w40 respectively. If u have a brand new car and sound engine use 5w30.

Where can I get 10W 40 for sale? That's the recommended oil for my motorbike, I have been using 20W 50 with no issues, but lately I have noticed reduced engine performance and more fuel consumption. I want to make the switch back at my next service.

Please, which is the best engine oil rating for Honda Pilot 2003 model in Nigeria, a warm climate that is to say. The Oil cap says '5W-20', but this rec. is very rare to come by in Nigeria, and I realized that the '5W-20' is for temperate climes. I've come across the Mobil 20W-50, and Total 5w-40 before, but not sure which is the best for Pilot 2003.
I shall be grateful if anyone can help.
Thanks.

I will always advocate the use of company specified oil ie the number written on the cap of the engine,We might want to say that the car companies don't have Nigerian weather in mind when manufacturing but remember we have cities with the same temperature as some " western" cities/countries ,some states over there even have hotter weathers than we have here in Naija and some cities like Jos and obudu etc can get very very cold .If you really wanna enjoy your car ,give it what it needs, what is recommended by the people that created it.Shekina !!!..
