If You Can Get This Right, then You Are A Genius by scofieldsimba(m): 8:10pm On Apr 13, 2016
QUESTION OF THE DAY
If you get the answer right, I
swear you are a super genius .
---------------------------------------------
--------------------
A lady bought goods worth #200 and paid the shopkeeper with a #1000 note. the shopkeeper had no change on him so he went to another shopkeeper John his
neighbor and collected #1000 change in #200 denominations with which he settled the
lady and she left.
A little while later , John came
back angrily after he discovered the #1000 note he was given by
shopkeeper was fake, and demanded a replacement. To avoid trouble, the shopkeeper had to give John another #1000 and destroyed the counterfeit which had no real value .
HOW MUCH HAS THE SHOPKEEPER LOST IN TOTAL??
.

2000 .....200 naira worth of item +fake 1000+800 change

the total loss is N1000.... here is the issue:
lady buys shoe for 200 with a 1000 note... shopkeeper1 loss 0
shopkeeper1 has no change and get it from shopkeeper2... shopkeeper1 loss still 0
shopkeeper1 keeps 200 from the 1000, and gives 800 to lady... shopkeeper loss 0
they realize the money is fake, shopkeeper1 reimburse shopkeeper2 with 1000 shopkeeper1 loss 1000

the shoes were already paid for by the 200 he kept from the 1000 he borrowed from shopkeeper2, so the shoe cannot be counted as a loss.

Total loss is 1000 naira explained by MRbrownJ.

because there wouldn't have been any loss if the money wasn't fake (normal business transaction done). and the shopkeeper 1 would have still decided to keep d fake1k and deceive someone with it. there wouldn't still be any loss yet. buh for him tearing the money to shreds. that's where d loss came about. so total loss one thousand naira...

#1000 simple!! Because a fake #1000 note (which was later mutilated) was exchanged for a shoe of #200 and change of #800.
The #1000 given to john was not a loss because john gave back #1000 in lower denominations.
