Me just don't fancy calling addressing single ladies as Ma'. For me to adreess sm1 as Ma' it has to be someone way advance than me and probably ve my age at home

Well even including known folks, I grew up in a society where all my high school teachers were addressed as Miss if not married and Ms for the married/ divorced. The Americans use Ma'am , it's more Miss and Ms in europe.

Madam is used in formal settings but in an informal discussion madam is pretentious, a little fresh (something a foreigner would say) and out of place.

I have noticed that most single ladies get angry when you address them as 'madam' but, its not the case with single men. I have noticed this even in the corporate setting especially in Nigeria.

Because they are single...Ma is the short abbreviation for married.

When I was growing up, we call each other by our first name; D Even my Dad.......

But we had to stop when my grandmother nearly brought the house down because of it when visiting..

But we still do that when we are together and alone cheesy

So I grew up seeing it as normal.
