The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said in Abuja that it enrolled 362,000 new citizens the nation over inside the most recent couple of months.

Administrator of the administration, Mr Babatunde Fowler, unveiled this while instructing newsmen after a budget defence session with the Senate Committee on Banking and other Financial Institutions.

He said that the administration was focusing to meet 90 percent consistence with tax paying.

“The honest truth is that when it comes to payment of Value Added Tax (VAT), less than 10 per cent in terms of numbers actually are remitting on VAT. If those people who are benefiting from Nigeria and actually have the love for Nigeria can do the right thing by paying their taxes they will be empowering government to provide services.

“We intend to make sure that we get at least 90 per cent compliance. Over the last few months, we have added over 362, 000 new tax payers and then our job is just to make sure that we enforce payment,” he said. Fowler added that the service planned to recruit 1,250 new staff once its budget was approved.

Good, without taxation government won't function properly, but hope the FIRS remit to government and just business as usual the way it was under the President Jonathan...

Story.

I can't pay direct tax to a failed country. If they can't manage all the other huge bucks, is it the tax that will be spared?

what is the point or use of paying tax when all what our government does is to spend and waste the money selfishly on them selves

FIRS don't remit tax to the government rather the tax payer pays directly to the government's accounts.

What is an average Nigerian benefiting from government? Even if I pay my 100% earning as a tax, will that change the attitude of the thieves in agbada that we call government? An american will pay tax joyfully because most times they forget to pray to God as their government has made almost everything available for them. Unlike these cleptos that will stop at nothing to change the laws of the land to soothe their selfish interests. I weep for this nation and her cursed leaders. Posterity will gladly pee on ur graves.
