Libya to execute 220 illegal aliens

Thomas Adejo, Kaduna reports |

Over 220 illegal immigrants in Libya mostly Nigerians may be executed before tomorrow morning, New Nigerian has learnt. A source said that out of this number, 30 were allegedly executed in the early hours of yesterday in the prison yard in Tripoli, the Libyan capital. According to the source, among the Nigerian illegal immigrants awaiting execution in Libya is a 37-year-old Benedict Ukoma Jude from Imo State who was arrested along with other Nigerians for entering the country without valid documents.

It was gathered that the arrested Nigerians were kept separately from other nationals from Ghana, Niger, Cameroun ,Algeria and Mali just as the Nigerians were being dehumanized before their alleged execution. An official of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja however told our correspondent that Nigerian government was not aware of such development.

Benedict Ukoma Jude who spoke to New Nigerian from his prison cell in Libya yesterday said most Nigerian illegal immigrants were arrested in the desert while trying to cross to Europe.

Benedict, who also denied being involved in any criminal activity in Libya said, the illegal aliens were arraigned before a court after the arrest, adding that the charges against them were read to them in the language they could not understand while the judicial officers feighned not to understand English.
He alleged that the Libyan authorities have been killing illegal aliens in batches since last week, stressing that the remaining prisoners would be executed tomorrow as over 10 Nigerians were among those executed yesterday.

Speaking to New Nigerian on the ugly development in Libya, President of the Safe Motherhood Foundation, a Kaduna based NGO , Rev Joe Adejo expressed disgust over the summary execution of illegal aliens in that country.

The cleric said the authorities in Tripoli should have been happy to see nationals of other sister African countries coming to contribute to the economic development of their nation.

He said the action of the Libyan government negates the concept of African brotherhood , which he maintained should be condemned in all its ramifications just as he advised Nigerian youths to remain in their country to develop their fatherland.

Efforts to get the view of Libyan Embassy officials in Nigeria on the issue were unsuccessful, as New Nigerian was told yesterday that the embassy had not been in operation for nearly one year now.

It would be recalled that over 300 Nigerian illegal immigrants were killed in Libya while several hundreds were deported after they were dehumanised in the past two years.
In the meantime, officials of Sudanese Embassy in Tripoli embarked on protest yesterday outside the maximum prison yard, where the illegal aliens were being kept awaiting execution. Sudanese nationals are among illegal immigrants to be killed before the sun set tomorrow.

The question now is what is the Nigerian government doing at this moment to save the lives of these citizens in this present situation. Next, what is the meaning of the Libya pan African vision and indeed the African Union. If Nigerians are deemed illegal immigrants, that is not enough for capital punishment.
The Nigeria government ,must as a matter of urgency wake up and respond decisively to rescue the lives of these Nigerians whose fate remain in a serious uncertainty.
The government must wake up to make Nigeria environment better for her citizens, such as making provision of unemployment benefits, access to human capital development and education, housing , healthcare , security of lives and property, infrastructural development and transparent leadership and accountability Thread Tools

These Arabs are heartless.
Very cold people and they tell us they have a religion of peace.

How can you murder your fellow human being in cold blood for being an illegal alien?
What happened to deportation?
Nigeria ought to cut off any ties with these stupid Libyans.
May their souls rest in peace

The  man is utterly useless.
He can relocate to Brazil and we wouldn't even know the difference.
What efforts are they making to get these people returned to Nigeria?

I hope , and prayed that the story is not true. It may be true as we have
A DO NOTHING GOVERNMENT who are only bent on fixing themselves and not find solutions to the betterment of their people.

My other thoughts is that, it is possible that there are few numbers of such 'loud Nigerians' arrested for drug offences (which in some part of the world the penalty is death)

Nothwithstanding, I think that Nigerian government through the Ministry of Information should be quickly be making statement after consulation with the foreign ministry on the true state of the matter, IF IT WILL EVER INTEREST THEM, AS IF THEY CARE, HAVE TOU FORGORTENN THAT PRESIDENT YAR A'CLUELESS ONLY TRAVELS TO FIX HIS HEALTH IN GERMANY

Nope. Nigerians like everyone else should not be limited in their travels.

But killing people because they are 'illegal immigrant' deserves a complete condemnation.

Nigeria should organise '3rd Marine Commando' to go Libya and rescue these people.

We should put Libya and everyone that support them on our list of 'Enermies of Nigeria People'

This would send a signal to the whole world; dont Bleep with Nigerians.

Jihad is an Arabic word whose root is jahada, which means to strive for a better way of life. Other nouns are Juhd, Mujahid, Jihad, and Ijthad. The other meanings are endeavour, strain, exertion, effort, diligence, and fighting to defend one’s life, land and religion.

It should be stated here that the highest degree of Jihad in Islam is when a person is making struggle against himself. He should not allow himself to commit any crime, any assault, or any type of ill doing against the law, the society or the environment. A Muslim who already submitted himself and his loyalty to God (The Creator of the Universe) has to try his best to control his ego, his lusts, and his selfishness.

He should be humble, amicable, and friendly to all irrespective of colour, nationality, ethnic background, gender, language, creed, position or religion. A Muslim is that person who walks and behaves like an angel on this planet. He is to take care of poor, the needy, those who are out of jobs, and those who are homeless. He is to sacrifice his time, money, knowledge, wisdom, effort, energy and all other capacities in order to please God, and harmony among themselves. This is considered in the Book of God as a true Jihad.

Anyone who makes Jihad against himself is to be rewarded by God in this world and in the hereafter. One has to make sure that while he is making Jihad against himself; his intention should be for the love of God, and for the sake of making people happy, healthy and safe. He should never brag about his sacrifices; and he should never exploit people at all, otherwise he would be the loser in this world and in the hereafter. PS: For more references one may read the Qur’an (3: 142); (22:78); (29:6); (29:69).
Jihad is not a war to force the faith on others, as some people may think. It should never be interpreted as a way of compulsion of the belief on others.

Islam prohibits terrorism, kidnapping, and hijacking, in peace and in war when carried against civilians. Whoever commits such violation is considered a murderer and is to be punished by Islamic State. During wars, Islam prohibits Muslim soldiers from harming civilians, women, children, elderly, and the religious men like priests and rabbis; it also prohibits cutting down trees and destroying structures.

HOLY WAR
The term Holy War is not an Islamic terminology. The only Holy is God, the Creator. His words are Holy. As far as war is concerned, there is nothing in the Qur’an or even in the teachings of Islam, which indicates that Muslims should wage a war at all. Moreover, it is against the teachings of Islam to practise what is called Holy War. This action is not at all from Islam. It is a borrowed terminology from the Crusades.

Indeed, the Crusades of the Romans had used this terminology and applied it in action. They considered the local people in the Middle East as infidels. It happened that those people of the Middle East were Christian and Muslim Arabs. Even those Christians did not accept the Crusaders as their leaders. Hence, the Romans had to get the verdict and the blessings of the then Pope to wage a tragic war against the Middle East people. They considered the local Christians and Muslims as Infidels.

In order to raise enough money to buy ammunition, they started selling croissant in their local churches. They thought that the croissant is the symbol for Muslims, i.e. crescent and star. This was not true of course. Muslims do not worship the moon. They worship Allah (The Almighty) alone. Their pledge of allegiance is only to Allah, the Creator of the whole universe.

At that time the Crusades killed 200,000 local people in the Middle East. Similarly one can say that the Inquisition in Spain was carried by the Francos against the local Muslims, Christians and Jews. They killed 10 million Muslims and 4,000 Jews. Those acts of terrorism were done in the name of their religion. However, Jesus was innocent of their terror, and Christianity and other Christians of the world are innocent of their crimes and atrocities. It should be stated here that the local Christians of today have nothing to do with the Crusades or with the Inquisitions. No one is to be blamed for someone else’s mistake in the past history.

Therefore, Islam is against Holy war. It is against killing innocent people. Qur’an stipulates that whoever kills one person it’s as if he killed human beings at large; and whoever saves the life of one person it’s as if he saved the lives of all people on this planet. Moreover, if someone tries to create commotion, disturbance and hate among people so that they may start war, he is committing a big sin, which is bigger than killing humanity at large. Hence, Muslims try to live in peace and harmony with all people of the world without exception.

dodgy story

only a nigerian online magazine has it

i googled refugee websites and there is nothing on it

here is some history of libya and refugees:

http://www.worldrefugeesurvey.org/index.php?title=Libya

2008 Summary

Libya maintained 10 detention camps for illegal migrants, where detainees reported being abused, including sexually.

In January, the European Union (EU) announced new cooperation with Libya on several areas, stopping asylum seekers and other migrants from reaching Europe by crossing the Mediterranean. The Government also announced plans to demolish makeshift homes of undocumented foreigners around Tripoli and other cities.

Libya’s official news agency, JANA, reported that the country began expelling all illegal immigrants in January. Government sources alleged there were more than 1 million in Libya, most of whom were Sub-Saharan Africans from Chad, Sudan, and Niger. Libyan authorities further stated that they would prosecute and fine those who provided shelter to illegal immigrants. The Office of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) expressed concern for the lack of protection for refugees and asylum seekers in the deportation process, although the Government claimed that none of the million it hoped to deport were refugees or asylum seekers. During the year, the Government somewhat improved screening for refugees and asylum seekers among the deportees.

In March, the International Organization for Migration opened a center for stranded African migrants in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, to provide humanitarian assistance. It helped more than 1,800 migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia return to their home countries voluntarily. The center provided temporary housing for up to 40 people, counseling, and medical services, as well as information on the dangers of irregular migration.

Libya deported 110 Malians in April, after reportedly detaining them for months, beating them, and confiscating their money. In June, the Government prepared to deport 230 Eritrean refugees back to Eritrea, but opted not to, instead detaining them for the rest of the year. Libya detained at least 700 Eritreans during 2008.

In July, UNHCR signed an agreement with the International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and the Italian Council for Refugees to ensure the protection needs of asylum seekers and refugees in Libya. In July, hundreds of Eritrean refugees marched in Ethiopia’s capital, demanding that Egypt and Libya stop deporting Eritreans, whom they said were at risk of execution. In August, Italy agreed to pay Libya $5 billion as compensation for its colonization of Libya, which ended in 1943. Libya agreed to work more closely with Italy to prevent African migrants from reaching Italy from Libya.

In early September, Libya deported nearly 470 Nigerians from its southwestern city of Sebha.

In October, Libyan security forces stopped a Ghanaian man attempting to cross into Libya and forced him to return to a military post in Niger. In November, the Libyan and Italian foreign ministers met to discuss the flow of illegal immigration. Libya and Italy discussed starting sea patrols in order to reduce the flow of illegal migration. According to Italian officials, more than 300 boats from Libya arrived in Italy from January to October.

In mid-November, Libya deported 420 Malians from Sebha. By the end of November, over 9,000 migrants had been deported from Sebha, mainly to Niger, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Senegal. During November alone, it repatriated roughly 1,100 people from Sebha.

sounds odd that they would abruptly change thier policy, not so?
