Guy congrats.
Also, debosky was right that you would have done MEng. Anyway, I would advice you to go back to that school and apply for MSc.
Getting a job is becoming more and more difficult (both UK and Naija) and u will really need the MSc to gain a competitive edge.
I got ma MSc in Pipeline Engineering from that school and I have never regretted it. Though for Engineers, 2006 is a lot different from 2012!!!

I actually think opportunities are just as good in 2012, even if there are more hurdles in terms of immigration in the UK. Major projects are still ongoing and the O&G industry is very buoyant.

Hello all! I am in my final year chemical engineering looking at a 2:1 by his grace.
I would be going for my masters immediately after Bsc God willing.

I would like to find out how good the oil and gas management msc at coventry or RGU is. And also interms of job prospects,

I would also like to know if canada is better than the UK for me,

I would be grateful if someone more experienced can put me on the right track.
Thanks and Godbless!

here's a thread for RGU:

I'll be glad if the work/duties of a Chemical Engineer & that of a Reservoir Engineer in an O & G coy can be outlined better stil explained.
Your articulate replies are earnestly awaited.
Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by bejo2k: 10:52am On Jan 27, 2012
@sparkle-baby matlab is pretty relevant, but it depends on what type of calculations you doing because there are somethings that you can represent in matlab that you can not easily represent in excel and besides no knowledge is lost so if you have the opportunity to learn it, learn it

apart from being a scientist, u also get to be an engineer, as such you hav a diversified area for employment opportunities, although some companies would rather take an engrg undergrad i.e some having the basic ideas of the "1st principles"

It really depends on what aspect of renewable energy you are interested in - biomass/biofuels, solar (photovoltaic or thermal), wind, wave. . . . it’s quite a broad area.

In terms of job opportunities in Nigeria, I’m not too sure of the number of opportunities that exist.

I do recall a number of years ago the NNPC launched a renewable energy division looking specifically at producing biodiesel and ethanol for blending into gasoline and diesel. I don’t know how active they are at the moment but it’s worth investigating.

http://www.nnpcgroup.com/NNPCBusiness/MidstreamVentures/RenewableEnergy.aspx

http://www.globalbiofuelsnig.com/index.html

http://www.downstreamtoday.com/news/article.aspx?a_id=35434&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

There may be some work going in FIIRO or other research institutes on renewables, but again I don’t know at what scale.

In terms of advice, I’d say look at areas you have interests in - first before deciding. If you hate fluid dynamics and thermodynamics for example, it wouldn’t make sense to be looking at becoming an RE.

Professional of The Week: A Chemical Engineer

This week , we’re featuring a Chemical Engineer with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) as the Professional of The Week”. It was yet another enlightening interview and I encourage every professional or budding professional out there to read on.

1. Why did you choose Chemical Engineering as your profession?

I was interested in a Career in the Engineering field because I was science inclined as I child. Also, I enjoyed subjects like Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. I would have taken medicine but I can’t stand the sight of blood.

While in Secondary School, SS2, I had a discussion with a senior and this helped me single out Chemical Engineering as my dream profession.

I choose Chemical Engineering because of its relevance and application in a lot of industries. You can work almost anywhere, Oil & Gas , Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical & Health, Agriculture etc

Read the full interview here http://thekrine..com/2012/03/professional-of-week-chemical-engineer.html

Cheers
