If Victor Edoror is successfully unseated from the position of speaker, then a candidate from Edo central will most likely pick the gubernatorial ticket for APC

A really smart move indeed.
The guy is a loyal party member (he stood his ground against the swearing-in of a new PDP member for almost 3months). But he obviously angered the governor and the party leadership with the way he handled the Local Govt Chairmen tenure issue.
