The latest episode of Game Of Thrones has once again
caused a whole load of debate among fans – and this time
it’s Tyrion at the centre of it all.
Because following the instalment which aired in the US on
Sunday night (and Sky Atlantic on Monday), viewers have re-
ignited an old fan theory based around the real parentage of
the Lannister stalwart.
Namely that it might just involve him being Daenerys’ half-
brother – something they’re now debating even more given
his apparent prowess with dragons.
The episode, Homeward Bound, saw Tyrion confronting and
taming dragons Viserion and Rhaegal – once again sparking
suggestions that it’s Mad King Aerys Targaryen, rather than
Tywin Lannister, who fathered him. The theory goes thus:
Tyrion’s mother Joanna Lannister visited King’s Landing
some months before Tyrion was born to celebrate the tenth
anniversary of Aerys’ coronation.
While there his attraction to Joanna was clear – and it’s
already been documented that Aerys wanted to sleep with her
on the night on her wedding to Tywin.
Which led to rumours that Joanna was in fact the king’s
mistress, that she lost her virginity to him and – well you can
figure out the rest for yourself.
Which is what the fans appear to have done.
