Ooni'risa is a short form form Ooni Orisa - Ooni the Orisa.

Why? Because total number of Orisa is 201, Ooni is the 201st, the last & only Orisa that is in human form.

Ooni was never a priest, matter of priesthood was the job of Isoro.

Ife is divided into two - Otun & Osi (right & left)

The right is made up of the political class headed by Oduduwa (Ooni).

The left is made up of the priestly class headed by Obatala (Isooro).

The only reason Alaafin doesn't want to fall in line is because Oyo has its own version of Ife history which he and many Oyo stay basking in - ignorance.

As regards paying tax to Alaafin.

Have you ever heard the saying 'omode gbon, agba gbon ni afi da ile ife'?

If yes or no, there's a history behind it.

When Oyo was at its peak of military exploits (can't remember the Alaafin who was on the throne at this time), it turned to Ife & demanded tax.

The people of Ife met and decided to send gifts including a heifer to the Alaafin but Ife people demanded that the babies from the cow be sent back to Ife periodically.

Oyo became trapped and dropped any form of taxations against Ife permanently.

Hence the saying, 'Omode gbon, agba gbon, l'afi da'le Ife'

In this case, Oyo was/is the Omode.

Afte oduduwa shared the land between his sons, oranmiyan was not around, infact he was at benin, when he left benin(in annoyance) after installing his son, he came back to his father for his own share of the land. But his father daid he hd shared all the lands between his brothers and told him that he will rule after him (as the oonirisha), this position shouod have naturally gone to Orangun of Ila but Orangun never contested the decision (we do not know why).
After this, oranmiyan departed to form his own kingdom (oyo ile). This kingdom grew in power and wealth, then his father died and he (Oranmiyan) should have gone home but didn't go. Instead a slave boy who was with the oonirisha(oduduwa) then became the ooni. This was why he was paying tax to the allafin(oranmiyan).
It was after the Brits came that yhey elevated the ooni to be over the allafin because they felt since it was the cradle/oringin of the yoruba race, the king should be the first.
Please note: oduduwa was the first ooni, he met people in yoruba land. Infact obatala(oba ti ala) was one of the minor kings then.

Yes sir. Lies and stupidity! The current Ooni knows that this path leads nowhere hence his visit to the Alaafin earlier this year for peace and progress. The Oyos, from their very beginning, have never seen the Ooni as a king. It won’t change in 2016 because someone somewhere made claims he has a different version of their history.
Let Ooni continue with his highly commendable progressive moves but arrogating any form of supremacy over Alaafin is an alien notion and won't start in 2016.
