In African religion, theft of public resources has real consequences for the offender, based on the powerful oaths made prior to assuming office. In African pre-colonial history, no public official is known to have embezzled public funds or resources, and lived to tell the tale. The gods upon whom the oath of office was sworn would strike such a man down before he could enjoy the loot. But what do we have today? A man can steal the entire treasury, and all he has to do is 'believe' in Jesus to be 'saved'. Or 'confess' his sins to a pastor, and be 'forgiven', even while retaining the loot. Same as Islam. There, no crime committed is so grievous that a pilgrimage to Mecca cannot erase.

In African religion, there is nothing like 'forgiveness'. You commit a crime, you pay restitution, and/or receive commensurate punishment.

That's what I'm talking about, my brotha. You see, in the olden days, the idea of one man just waking up and stealing the resources meant for the entire village, city or empire as the case may be, was simply unheard of. The mere thought of the fury invoked in the gods by such an act was enough to make every man forbid the thought in his mind. Now it's like once you pray to Jesus, or say Allahu Akbar, you can steal the entire nation dry and live without consequences. The world has indeed turned upside down. And the funny thing is we consider these imported religions an improvement on ours! It's comical.

If you look around the world, you'll find that the nations doing really well are the ones that arranged themselves in line with their indigenous religious heritage. Japan is a good example. China another.
