A Lesson I Learnt From My Barber. . . by Nobody: 5:35pm On May 15, 2016 |
A key lesson learnt from a barber living right across my house. I was looking a bit unkempt with my beards unshaved and hair a bit above my regular limit, I decided to clean up a bit, so I picked up my wallet, checked how much was left in it cos I had just bought fuel at the new N145 per liter price, knowing Nigerians, every price on products and services will skyrocket with the new price, so I decided to go with N500 after all, it can't be that bad that the price will shoot from N200 to N500. On getting to the salon, I was the first customer he had for the day, I asked how much will it cost me to get a hair cut and I was shocked to hear him say N200, then my next question was has he not bought fuel at the new rate, he simply smiled and said, he just got back from the filling station, the most shocking part was that NEPA/PHCN/ EDC had done what they know how to do best (if you are Nigerian, you should understand ), the barber switched on his generator and did his job, while he was cutting my hair, I was really curious to know why he didn't increase his charges, after he was through with me, I paid and collected my change (before he changed his mind), then I asked him the all important question, "why?". His answer was the most practical and impressive one I've gotten in a while. He said "the N100 profit that comes steadily and frequently is better than the N500 profit that comes once in a while". Before I knew it, a passerby just branched and asked the guy, how much he barbs and he told him 200, the guy just jumped in and decided to cut his hair because other barbers had increased their charges. This morning I looked out through my balcony and the salon was filled with customers, waiting to get a cut, this I had not seen in his salon for a very long time. This guy is a true business man. Lesson learnt, see and create opportunities for yourself and out smart your competition in any way you can and in any situation you find yourself. |

If you ever stayed in the north you will know that is how a hausa man operates. A hausa man is satisfied if he makes 100 on a commodity in a day than waiting to make 200 on the same commodity after 4 days. |
