AFRICA’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has enjoined old and existing investors on the continent to stop painting a gloomy picture of doing business in Africa. He made the call in an address at the ongoing World Economic Forum on Africa in Kigali, Rwanda.

Dangote said that in order to attract more investors into the continent, “We have to get rid of perception risks. The fragility of perception drives away investors. We need to change the mindset because good things are happening in Africa. “Sometimes the old and existing investors paint a gloomy picture of doing business in Africa to avoid competition and scare away potential investors. You have to act big and bold.”

He disclosed that the Cement segment of his Group’s businesses has invested over 4 billion dollars in the continent and that the returns are quite good. “We are bullish about investing in Nigeria, devaluation or no devaluation.”

In response to how African entrepreneurs can have wider access to finance, Dangote advised that there should be a robust policy that encourages bank especially locally owned ones to finance local entrepreneurs. He pointed out that 90 per cent of Nigerian banks are owned locally and that perhaps correlates with why Nigeria has the highest number of entrepreneurs in Africa.

According to him, one of the biggest challenges to investing in Africa is lack of credible data to work on.

Mr Dangote, it is not perception when you have South Africans killing Nigerians because they think we are taking their jobs. This is reality.

Africa is a lawless place that strives on corruption and lacks order to a great extent. This continent is blessed and highly cursed at the same time with bad leadership just as it is in Nigeria currently.

Investors take note

The entire Africa as a continent is filled with greed, selfishness and hatred.
Just take a look at SA!! Ever since the whites gave them freedom, they have been nose diving and crashing like a jet plane which has been hit by a missile

True talk but the truth still remains that most African nations are cannot boast of what these investors Enjoy in their countries to make life living outside their clime easier. Like in Nigeria now, the epileptic power supply is even a turnoff for Nigerians living in the country. How do you expect an outsider to cope? And now that PMS is 145 now, what do you think?

When the leader of the 'Giant of Africa' is consistent in creating the most gloomy and repressive of perceptions, you can be sure all others including investors will have a field's day running d country and Africa generally, down.

Our president called Nigeria corrupt in front of the world. And admitted being fantastically corrupt. Nigeria is giant of Africa. So if giant of Africa is like this, how will other parts be. Nigeria is a he'll hole, other part of Africa is the fire. Africa is not good for business. Lack of electricity, poor transportation, lack of health care. Poor government economic policies, weakened currency and dangote wants someone to come and put his money in jeopardy. I know by now dangote must be regretting why he invested only in Africa. Because almost all African countries depends on oil and right now oil price has fallen
