There are certain images make us want to 'unsee' them. Below are some pictures and a little story on them. Thanks to Quora was I able to see these pictures. You can click on the links to view the complete story.

1. Bhopal Disaster: Over 500,000 people were exposed to methyl isocyanate (MIC) a toxic gas, in city of Bhopal, in India, when it exploded due to lack of maintenance and over production by an American corporation Union Carbide (Now Dow Chemical).

It caused 558,125 injuries, including 38,478 temporary partial injuries and approximately 3,900 severely and permanently disabling injuries.

Acute effects

Reversible reaction of glutathione (top) with methyl isocyanate (MIC, middle) allows the MIC to be transported into the body
The initial effects of exposure were coughing, severe eye irritation and a feeling of suffocation, burning in the respiratory tract, blepharospasm, breathlessness, stomach pains and vomiting. People awakened by these symptoms fled away from the plant. Those who ran inhaled more than those who had a vehicle to ride. Owing to their height, children and other people of shorter stature inhaled higher concentrations.

Thousands of people had died by the following morning.

Primary causes of deaths were choking, reflexogenic circulatory collapse and pulmonary oedema. Findings during autopsies revealed changes not only in the lungs but also cerebral oedema, tubular necrosis of the kidneys, fatty degeneration of the liver and necrotising enteritis. The stillbirth rate increased by up to 300% and neonatal mortality rate by around 200%.

2. Vulture and the little girl: The vulture is waiting for the girl to die and to eat her. The photograph was taken by South African photojournalist, Kevin Carter, while on assignment to Sudan. He took his own life a couple of month later due to depression.

“The parents of the children were busy taking food from the plane, so they had left their children only briefly while they collected the food. This was the situation for the girl in the photo taken by Carter. A vulture landed behind the girl. To get the two in focus, Carter approached the scene very slowly so as not to scare the vulture away and took a photo from approximately 10 meters. He took a few more photos before chasing the bird away.”

In 1994, South African photojournalist Kevin Carter won the Pulitzer prize for his disturbing photograph of a Sudanese child being stalked by a vulture. That same year, Kevin Carter committed suicide.

3. Jesse Washington: I'm sure many can site examples here in Nigeria with this one.

Jesse Washington, a teenage African-American farmhand, was lynched in Waco, Texas, on May 15, 1916, in what became a well-known example of racially motivated lynching. Washington was accused of raping and murdering Lucy Fryer, the wife of his white employer in rural Robinson, Texas. There were no eyewitnesses to the crime, but during his interrogation by the McLennan County sheriff he signed a confession and described the location of the murder weapon.

Washington was tried for murder in Waco, in a courtroom filled with furious locals. He entered a guilty plea and was quickly sentenced to death. After his sentence was pronounced, he was dragged out of the court by observers and lynched in front of Waco's city hall. Over 10,000 spectators, including city officials and police, gathered to watch the attack. There was a celebratory atmosphere at the event, and many children attended during their lunch hour. Members of the mob castrated Washington, cut off his fingers, and hung him over a bonfire. He was repeatedly lowered and raised over the fire for about two hours. After the fire was extinguished, his charred torso was dragged through the town and parts of his body were sold as souvenirs. A professional photographer took pictures as the event unfolded, providing rare imagery of a lynching in progress. The pictures were printed and sold as postcards in Waco.

4. Blanche Monnier: At age 25, Blanche Monnier had set her heart on marrying a lawyer, who was not to her mother's liking. Her disapproving mother locked her in a tiny room for 25 years. On May 23, 1901 the Paris Attorney General received an anonymous letter that revealed the secret incarceration. She was found in appalling conditions and rescued by police.

6. Honeymoon disaster: American man, David Watson, who swam off as his new wife died on the ocean floor during a honeymoon diving trip will spend an extra six months in jail after a court upheld an appeal.

David Watson, 32, a bubble-wrap salesman, was sentenced in June to four-and-a-half years for manslaughter, but under a plea bargain all but 12 months of the term was suspended, a decision that sparked outrage.
Christina Watson, 26, died in October 2003 after getting into trouble while scuba diving at a wreck off the coast of northern Queensland state where the couple were spending their honeymoon. The moments after the incident were inadvertently captured in a photograph by another person on the dive trip.
She was pulled from the ocean floor by a dive instructor after her husband failed to inflate her buoyancy vest or remove weights to bring her to the surface, instead leaving her to sink as he went get help.

7. Tyler Hadley's Killer Party: You could tell it was going to be a huge party because almost nobody had heard of the kid who was throwing it. Word was that his name was Tyler Hadley, he attended Port St. Lucie High, and, most crucially, his parents were out of town. Where exactly Tyler's parents had traveled, or how far, no one seemed to know.

Tyler had been telling his friends all week that he was going to have a party, but nobody believed him. He'd never thrown a party before, and it was impossible to believe that his parents, who had been increasingly strict with him lately, would give their consent. When his friends asked whether the party was still on, Tyler replied, "I'm working on it." They assumed that meant it was off. At 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, Hadley received a Facebook message from his friend Antonio Ramirez. Click on the title to continue reading.

8. Capturing the image of your future killer before your death: THIS is the dramatic moment an assassin is caught on camera – by the politician he shoots dead.

The victim took what he thought would be a happy New Year’s Eve snap of his family a split-second before his killer pulled the trigger.

The gunman was lurking in the background as Reynaldo Dagsa, 35, lined up his wife Arlene, daughter and mother-in-law outside his home.

Mr Dagsa was shot in the chest in Philippines capital Manila, where he was a law-enforcing councillor who had helped get his killer Michael Gonzales jailed for car theft.

A police source said: “This is probably the first time in history that a victim has managed to capture his own murder on film.

“We were led straight to the killer because of the picture. It’s fair to say he is a familiar face to us.”

Gonzales was arrested with an accomplice, top right of the photo, who kept lookout.

11. Genie the feral child: Genie (born April 18, 1957) is the pseudonym for a feral child who was a victim of severe abuse, neglect, and social isolation. Her circumstances are prominently recorded in the annals of linguistics and abnormal child psychology. When Genie was a baby her father concluded that she was severely mentally challenged, a view which intensified as she got older, causing him to dislike her and withhold care and attention. At approximately the time she reached the age of 20 months her father decided to keep her as socially isolated as possible, so from that time until she reached the age of 13 years and 7 months he kept her locked alone in a room. During this time he almost always kept her strapped to a child's toilet or bound her in a crib with her arms and legs completely immobilized, forbade anyone from interacting with her, provided her with almost no stimulation of any kind, and left her severely malnourished. The extent of Genie's isolation prevented her from being exposed to any significant amount of speech, and as a result she did not acquire language during childhood. Her abuse came to the attention of Los Angeles child welfare authorities on November 4, 1970

13. Bibi Aisha: Bibi Aisha is an Afghan woman whose mutilated face appeared on the cover of Time magazine in summer 2010.

Aisha suffered early in life, losing her mother and forced into marriage as a teenager. In a practice known as baad, Aisha's father promised her to a Taliban fighter when she was 12 years old as compensation for a killing that a member of her family had committed. She was married at 14 and subjected to abuse. At 18 she fled the abuse but was caught by police, jailed for five months, and returned to her family. Her father returned her to her in-laws. To take revenge on her escape, her father-in-law, husband, and three other family members took Aisha into the mountains, cut off her nose and her ears, and left her to die. Aisha was later rescued by aid workers and the U.S. military. Some sources disputed the role of any members of the Taliban in her mutilation.

14. The falling man: The Falling Man is a photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Richard Drew of a man falling from the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:41:15 a.m. during the September 11 attacks in New York City. The subject of the image, whose identity remains uncertain, was one of the people trapped on the upper floors of the skyscraper who either fell searching for safety or jumped to escape the fire and smoke. At least 200 people are believed to have fallen or jumped to their deaths that day while other estimates say the number is half of that or fewer. Officials could not recover or identify the bodies of those forced out of the buildings prior to the collapse of the towers. All deaths in the attacks except those of the hijackers were ruled to be homicides due to blunt trauma (as opposed to suicides).[4] The New York City medical examiner's office said it does not classify the people who fell to their deaths on September 11 as "jumpers": "A 'jumper' is somebody who goes to the office in the morning knowing that they will commit suicide. These people were forced out by the smoke and flames or blown out."

The photograph gives the impression that the man is falling straight down; however, a series of photographs taken of his fall showed him to be tumbling through the air.

The photographer has noted that, in at least two cases, newspaper stories commenting on the image have attracted a barrage of criticism from readers who found the image "disturbing".

15. Omayra Sánchez: Omayra Sánchez Garzón (August 28, 1972 – November 16, 1985) was a Colombian girl killed in Armero, department of Tolima, by the 1985 eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano when she was 13 years old. Volcanic debris mixed with ice to form massive lahars (volcanically induced mudslides, landslides, and debris flows) that rushed into the river valleys below the mountain, killing nearly 23,000 people and destroying Armero and 13 other villages.

After a lahar demolished her home, Sánchez became pinned beneath the debris of her house, where she remained trapped in water for three days. Her plight was documented as she descended from calmness into agony. Her courage and dignity touched journalists and relief workers, who put great efforts into comforting her. After 60 hours of struggling, she died, likely as a result of either gangrene or hypothermia. Her death highlighted the failure of officials to respond correctly to the threat of the volcano, contrasted with the efforts of volunteer rescue workers to reach and treat trapped victims, despite a dearth of supplies and equipment.

Sánchez became internationally famous through a photograph of her taken by the photojournalist Frank Fournier shortly before she died. When published worldwide it generated considerable controversy; it was later designated the World Press Photo of the Year for 1985. Sánchez has remained a lasting figure in popular culture, remembered through music, literature, and commemorative articles.

16. [urlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Berdella]The serial killer: Robert Andrew "Bob" Berdella (January 31, 1949 – October 8, 1992) was an American serial killer in Kansas City, Missouri who raped, tortured, and killed at least six men between 1984 and 1987.

Image of the killer below:

Berdella is believed to have started killing in July 1984. He drugged one of his friends, prostitute Jerry Howell, and started keeping him in his basement, torturing and repeatedly raping him over a night before fatally asphyxiating him. In April 1985, another friend of Berdella, Robert Sheldon, came to stay with him for a few days and was drugged and held captive in the basement like Howell before him. At first, Berdella changed his mind about "keeping" him and took him to a doctor to have his injuries treated. Not long afterwards, he changed his mind and returned Sheldon to his basement. On April 15, a workman came to do some work on Berdella's home, leading Berdella to fatally suffocate Sheldon so he would not be heard. The following June, Berdella found Mark Wallace, who had helped him with yard work, hiding in his tool shed to seek shelter from a storm. Berdella invited him inside his house, drugged him and started holding him captive. After hours of torture, he was killed like the previous victims. In September, he picked up James Ferris at a gay bar, invited him home, and took him captive. After weeks of torture, he was killed.

In June 1986, Berdella lured Todd Stoops, a male prostitute he had known for some time, to his house and held him captive for six weeks before he died too. The next year, he bailed Larry Pearson out of jail and started holding him prisoner in his basement. According to Berdella, Pearson was by far the most cooperative of his six murder victims; throughout his six weeks of captivity, Pearson had trained himself to sleep without moving, in order that he did not antagonize Berdella and thus invite further torture. After six weeks of captivity, Berdella killed Pearson by first bludgeoning him into unconsciousness, and later suffocating him with a bag and ligature.

One of his victims, Todd Stoops:
