Chevron Suspends Operations As Oil Rises Above $50/barrel by comos: 4:49pm On May 26, 2016
Militants, Thursday, blew up Chevron Nigeria Limited’s onshore oil facilities in the Niger Delta, forcing the company to shut down its operations. This was even as the price of crude oil rose above $50 a barrel, for the first time in nearly seven months as a global supply glut that plagued the market for nearly two years showed signs of easing.

The disruption in Chevron’s operation was caused by the Niger Delta Avengers, who claimed the bombing of the facility’s mains electricity feed. The group said they blew up the Escravos tank farm main electricity feed pipeline.

The group declared that its decision to bomb the facility was because Chevron ignored its warning not to fix a pipeline they had bombed earlier in the month. Industry sources said that Escravos onshore production accounts for roughly a third of Chevron’s total output, on average 3.8 million barrels per month (bpm) in 2014.

The company’s projected exports for the first half of 2016 averaged 167,000 barrels per day (bpd) or about five million barrels per month. . Reports claimed that Escravos production was already down by more than 40,000 barrels per day after a May 5 militant attack on a Chevron offshore facility, adding that increased violence over the past few weeks had also made international buyers more reluctant to buy Nigerian crude due to fears of loading delays and cancellations.

Meanwhile, as a result of the unrest in the Niger Delta,l as well as crisis in Libya and wildfires in Canada, which had reduced global crude oil out by about four million barrels per day, the price of crude has risen above the $50 mark.

Specifically, benchmark crude oil grade, Brent, was up 36 cents at $50.10 a barrel, the highest in nearly seven months, after a larger-than-expected draw in United States’ crude oil inventories last week indicated buyers are starting to mop up spare supply. U.S. crude futures were up 29 cents at $49.85 a barrel, after touching $49.97, the highest since mid-October. Reports stated that at abbove $50 a barrel, oil was seen by many market players as breaching a psychological barrier that could lead producers, particularly among U.S. shale companies, to revive operations scrapped in recent years.

Democracy is a curse on Africa, khakistocrasy is best for us. Africa is just not ripe for this. Why would a group of tugs and touts hold a nation to ransom. Wen u make things worse for this govt Nigerians will end up bearing the brunt. Power is now nothing but zero. God help us.

In as much as the nda issues are craftily laced with the Attempt of resource renegociation. It begs the answers was the allocation of oil block done today or has pmb given any which annoys them. These are events that occured in the 1990's to 80's by recklesness of military with corruption to the democracy era. This can only be a blackmail to hide behind a mask to perpetrate evil. Demand on kanu even denotes the outright PDP political tendency to free its appendage all in bid to threaten the nigeria unity. This stupidity is mainly by a bunch of pdp sympathizers who have refused to see life without the largese of been given free billions in the name of securing pipelines just to hoodwink the govt.

I do hope these boys realise that they are the ones at loss here. Doing their masters bidding who only want protection contracts that they wont use to develop the place.
By 2019 they would still be faced with another hausa president till 2023. So why destroy and pollute your land

Hmmmmm; NDA the latest thorn in the flesh.

Vanishing Boko Haram, Emergent Herdsmen and the NDA is enough to stifle any government.

We need help because this new government is now ambushed on every side.

God help us.

We are our own worst enemy
Boko haram was cheered on while it was a rag tag group, giving it impetus to metamorphosize to its current state...who suffered the brunt of the attacks? Surely wasn't the elite who had (still have) their families safely tucked away overseas.

NDA is still cheered on as we like to cut our nose to spite our face, an attack of this magnitude and some people are dancing in the euphoria of the success of the attack. Once again, our leaders will still live in opulence while the masses suffer.

Continue to dance, after all, you'll still come back to complain 'country hard'

Dear God, please pardon my transgressions and don't send me back to Nigeria in my second life.

You are correct, by now I expect him to have bought some modern Aircraft like MI-28/ KA-52 and Aircraft like SU24/27 or MIG 29/31.

Waiting for America arms instead of refurbished Russian Aircraft.
