The innovative Makoko floating school at Onike, Iwaya in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State on Tuesday collapsed after a heavy rain.

The collapse, came after hours of torrential rains that hit various parts of Lagos, including Makoko, a lagoon community, whose inhabitants live on water in floating shanties.

Details of how the three-storey building, which was meant to serve the residents, whose only source of education is a small nursery and primary school, the Whayinna Nursery and Primary school, collapsed were still sketchy as of the time of writing this report but eyewitnesses say there were casualties involved.

A silly one indeed.

How can they build a wooden structure in middle of a river as school?. with all the money Lagos state collects as allocation.

Their children school abroad, and relatives are the once on FG scholarship, jst wen will FG give education for the common man precedence?.

The planning wasn't properly done.. Not an engineer tho but exposing such structure to bare sea wind is not a good Idea as the structure would have weakened over time...firewood don set sha oo

That Makoko is a different world altogether, weaving through the stilt structures being paddled by a 9 year old boy and seeing women comfortably frying akara, yam and potatoes inside a canoe...can't forget my experience!
