Every tree has a root.

One athletic Chima had questioned his grandad's credibility.

He was born into the open palm of river Niger's sandy bank, at the windy hours of a Friday.

Tall but not tainted
Fair but not fated
Too handsome to escape some pretty maiden,
Yet, too determined to notice them,
Such was his strength that he took on three men and tore them down in no time.
Such was his height that when seen, one remembers the biblical Goliath.

His mother ushered him into this world and named him Chima.
But the oldest five in their village called him Ogbuagu (lion slayer).

A story was told about how Odumuodu, the great warrior, saved his people from the jaws of a strange lion in the distant past. He wrestled with the lion and killed it with his gun.

Jubilation erupted and the happy villagers honoured Odumuodu with a chieftaincy title "OGBUAGU".

Those were days when titles were given based on merit and not bought with money.

That Odumuodu was the grandfather of Chima.

The oldest villagers who had seen the days of Odumuodu's mighty deeds saw Chima and believed in reincarnation.

Well, this story has lost its original flavour today because contradictory versions kept coming out over the years.

Some said, it was actually the lion that killed Odumuodu and not the other way round.

Others said no, Odumuodu didn't die while facing the lion because the villagers came to his rescue.

So contradictory that not even Chima knows which version to believe.

Like Chima, everyone has a story to tell the unborn.
