The embattled former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Senator Ali modu Sheriff has declared Monday’s Governorship Primaries in Edo State as illegal and a contraption of an illegal care-taker Committee and has urged members nationwide especially in Edo State to disregard it.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo. the Party through the letter urged INEC not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo and said that the party is going to conduct a proper primary in the state.

Also in another statement, the party released a scheduled congress in Edo State to start from June 23rd-June 29th with the inauguration of Congress Committee scheduled for Thursday. Also in another statement, the National Chairman warned state Chairmen and officers of the party to desist meeting or having anything with the illegal Caretaker committee and warned that anybody dealing with them is on his own.

In another statement also, Sheriff also announced the appointment of some deputy national Officers as members of the National Working Committee in acting capacity. The party said that it is acting in pursuance to a resignation of five (5) members of NWC and in accordance with the provisions of sections 39(2), 42 (2), 43 (2), 44 (2) and 47 (6) of the Constitution of the party 2012 as amended.

The newly appointed officers are: Mr. Okey Nnadozie – Acting National Organizing Secretary, Mr. Alonge-Niyi Dennis –Acting National Youth Leader, Mrs. Hannatu Ullam –Acting National Women Leader and Barrister Bashir Maidugu –Acting National Legal Adviser.

The appointment, he said is with immediate effect.

Factional National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared Monday’s governorship primary of the party in Edo State as illegal, dismissing it as the work of an illegal care-taker committee.

The faction of the party led by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, conducted the primary, which produced Pastor Ize-Iyamu as the candidate.

Makarfi is the chairman of the party's caretaker committee put together by PDP governors at the convention held in Port Harcourt on May 21.

Sheriff had called off the convention but the governors disregarded his action.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sheriff urged members of the party nationwide, especially in Edo State, to disregard the primary.

A letter addressed to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signed by Mr. Sheriff and the National Secretary of his faction, Prof. Wale Oladipo, urged the electoral commission not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo State.

The party said that the party would conduct a “proper primary” in the state.

They've inadvertently set the stage for their failure. Sheriff is the LEGALLY recognised chairman of the party and anything/anyone who performs his duty without his appointing them to do so is simply an imposter- hence his actions wouldn't be recognised as legit under the law.

They couldn't done, they probably were hoping for EFCC to place him on a one way ticket to Kujeville but as someone who has major F ups to treat, he agreed to make refunds & went back to the battle front...

I feel for PDP faithfuls, this can't be the best of times for them...

This is trouble for PDP. If eventually ize-Iyamu wins the Edo election it would be contested in court by APC and overturned. That's even if INEC allows for anyone represent PDP.

You are a paranoid individual who is wired to reason in a manner devoid of common sense.On what ground sheriff was elected as the legal chairman of PDP thus is recognised as the valid chairman of PDP.Since when did you become a stakeholder in PDP whose opinion is needed to take decisions for PDP affairs.
In any organization,Congress is seen as the highest decision making body thus the convention conducted in portharcourt stand in as the authority to decide for PDP not you nor APC mole- Sheriff.However INEC was invited and they sent in their representatives which make the congress recognised.Makarfi was choosing as interim chairman and was carried in the convention until a substantive chairman is elected by convention.
Stop taking a painkiller for another person's headache.Its not going to save APC from loosing the forth coming gubernatorial election to PDP in Edo state.
