The Executive Alone Can’t Enjoy Immunity – Saraki by midolian(m): 6:14am On Jun 23, 2016

Lagos  –  Senate President, Bukola  Saraki on Wednesday said  Nigerians are misinterpreting what the members of the  National Assembly said with regards to immunity at the just concluded retreat on the amendment of the 1999 constitution in Lagos last week.

Speaking in a chat with Independent,  Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Senate  President said  contrary to the impression being given that the  National Assembly is demanding immunity for its members, the lawmakers are only canvassing immunity for the heads of the three arms of government- executive, legislative and judiciary.

He said since the three arms of government are independent, the lawmakers are of the opinion that the executive alone cannot be enjoying immunity, while the two others are deprived of such.
According to him “it is either immunity is given to the three arms of government or withdrawn from all”.

“ On the issue of immunity, what they discussed at the retreat is that the senators said it is either you give immunity to all three arms of government or immunity to none.  That is, there are three arms of government; the executive, legislative and the judiciary”.

“One cannot be enjoying immunity, while the others can’t benefit from same.   The immunity is not for the Senate president alone, it will also be given to the Chief Justice of Nigeria who is the head of the judiciary arm of government”.

“ So, the senators said it is either you give all the heads of the three arms or you remove it from the executive arm so that nobody will have it” he said.

Criminals too want to enjoy immunity... grin grin grin

Now, lemme ask.. If the legislooters enjoy immunity, when will they pay for their sins? Eg..David Mark was SP for 8yrs[if Buhari had not won election, he'ld still be there] and he has been in the Senate for over 16yrs...if we r to wait till he leaves the senate b4 dealing with him, it means we ll wait forever..cos this man wld love to be there till death says otherwise.

Plus, it has been observed with dismay that most of these governors, after spending 8yrs looting their state's treasury, tend "to seek asylum" in the Senate. For goodness sake, imagine these conglomerate of looters having immunity..just imagine it. Not even one of them(SP) is imaginable. angry angry

The Executive(Buhari & co) on the other hand can only be there for a maximum period of 8yrs after which they can pay for their crimes(if any).

Granting Immunity to Legislative and Judiciary is to crown corruption... It'll be a shield for you corrupt and potential corrupt Leg/Jud thiefs.

For me, we're not ripe for it.

God, Make Buhari stronger because the forces are much in this Country.

Of course my friend, Since one criminal (mumu the son of Hari) is enjoying it, another criminal (saratiff) should too.

There should be equality in government.

they should start giving them joo. soon all minsters and legislature and judiciary would demand for immunity and gradually it would get to a person like me on the street and we shall all be immunised against crime we commit. good move I say.

See how u are displaying ignorance proudly! A senator can be senate prez indefinitely as long as he remains in the house and as long as his colleagues choose to vote for him as such. Read more, speak less!

Since we are supposedly operating a federation, what about the states? Since governors enjoy immunity, should the state's speakers not enjoy immunity too? And since there are also 3 arms of government in the States also, should the state's chief judges not enjoy immunity too? In fact all head of political offices should have immunity, and not just them, their properties should enjoy immunity too (according to fayose)

Mr face of corruption, we are even thinking about stripping the executive immunity ever since fayose and others showed us the stupidity of that law. No immunity

Obviously this is the sole reason for their extravagant and dubois "retreat". But there is no hiding from justice. Thieves!

Must some nigerians bastardize everything?? You want power for life, you also dont want to ever be prosecuted! God punish una

Before some cursed wailers will come here to support evil as usual, pls remember that the evil seed u plant today, u will reap in future. The looters and criminals you support today are the same pple that will destroy ur future

there is NO POINT at all! Granting the Legislators immunity is same as saying once you are a legislator you can't be prosecuted for the rest of your life because some can spend 30years plus on the sit while the executive only has 8years max. The guy saraki is a thief looking for every avenue to escape.

I understand hate and intolerance makes a lot of your expose your idiocy in unbelievable ways, but tell me which is more: Tens of millions of people or less than 120 people (the probable amount of Senators that voted in the crook you are supporting)?

There's something definitely wrong with blacks. Something mentally wrong somewhere.
