Planning a vacation or business travels can sometimes be overwhelming and can also get you carried away by the expectations of your destination. However, it is an opportunity to break the chain of routine and experience new emotions, feelings and impressions.

Roaming Carelessly

When travelling abroad, you must have at the back of your mind that mobile roaming is a very expensive. It could be disastrous not to switch off your mobile roaming function, because you will definitely return home to meet a bill you did not bargain for.

To play safe, you can either use applications that provide free voice call, video and chat services such as Skype or Whats App – via Wi-Fi services. Also, if you may want to familiarize yourself with the roaming tariffs before embarking on your journey and use consciously.

Ditching Your Budget

Getting excited about your trip may sometimes cause you to forget about your whole plans and budget. For many inexperienced travellers going to a foreign country, it is very likely for you to get carried away and forget about all troubles and plunge into the world of entertainment and shopping since it may be your first time; however have in mind that going on a spending spree will ruin your budget. Instead consider your budget as a way to experience the place more creatively and more authentically – not as a restriction. Create a realistic budget that you can stick to and allow some breathing room for miscellaneous expenses. Bottom line is for you to spend wisely!

Handing Your Possessions To A Stranger

You never know when you might be forced to gate-check your hand luggage. Place your jewellery, iPad, camera, house and car keys, medication, and anything else you “can’t live without” in a thin pack or pouch inside your hand luggage so that, if you must surrender it to a flight attendant at the last minute because the overhead bins are full, you can remove the smaller bag and keep an eye on it beneath the seat in front of you.

Ignorance Of The Local Law and customs

One mistake you don’t want to make is to forget that you are in another man’s land where the law, rules, values, social norms, traditions and culture may be absolutely different from where you’re coming from. Breaking the law in the name of ignorance, will not avert the consequence. The law is equal for everybody – whether you are a local or a tourist. Before you decide to go to a foreign country, try to learn at least something about its culture and laws.

Not Doing Research

Google is such a life saver! Not doing proper research on your destination may have you making the wrong choices or going to the wrong places. Get information of possible things to do and interesting history of the place. The more research you do in advance, the more you know about the place and the more chances that you will enjoy your stay.

Not Knowing A Bit Of The Geography And Language

You don’t need to know everything about the geography or master how to speak the official language of your destination; however, you can at least learn a few things about the surroundings, how to ask for directions in their language and know a few things about their food. The locals might appreciate you for knowing a bit of their culture and thereby assist you when you need help with restaurants or directions.
