As I watch the Brexit referendum results,
George Orwell's Animal farm anthem comes to mind. This allegorical novel has always found its relevance in modern politics. It shows the Brits opinion of the EU.

Beasts of England, Beasts of Ireland,
Beasts of every land and clime,
Hearken to my joyful tidings
Of the Golden future time.

Soon or late the day is coming,
Tyrant Man (EU) shall be o'erthrown,
And the fruitful fields of England
Shall be trod by beast (Brits) alone.

The UK just did a referendum for scottish independence recently. Get behind the news.
The UK is not a federal system. Thatz why wales, northern Ireland and Scotland have their national flags and football teams. We have a constitution that doesn't allow for secession, the UK doesn't.

Do they have a 'Biafra' radio that primarily specialises in blackmailing

Was their 'Buhari' insulted by d campaigners of secession?

The reason why I'm always against this call for Biafra is just coz they were silent all through GEJ's tenure only to surface when power left the southern region..
Get Ur facts right please . More biafran agitators died in GEJ tenure . Police constantly raided and arrested them during meetings within the south east.
A good number of them were killed in detention and their corpses thrown into Ezu river. All these happened in GEJ tenure. You can check Nairaland archives for that thread. Never speak out of tribal sentiment its really bad.

The laborious research ordinary individuals in these truly great nations go through before making decisions concerning the future of their country is admirable. Despite all their major allies encouraging them to stay, all economics arguments was in favour of them staying in EU, all (but one) of the major leaders of their opposition parties wanted them to stay, their prime minister wanted them to stay, Obama wanted them to stay, big corporations wanted them to stay, and the list goes on. But despite all that, and people decided to go and vote for what they believed was the right thing for their country. Putting sentiment aside, Defying all the odds, Challenging the system, questioning the status quo, and here they are today...making HISTORY!

Though I think they would have been better off in EU, the remarkable thing here is the extraordinary way the people of United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, despite all the fears and doubts caste in their mind by their leaders and everyone they looked up to. No wonder they can and will always achieve great things. RESPECT!!

The UK benefits a lot from the EU. Didn't stop their citizens from voting out because they believe they can get a much better deal.
You can kick out igbos from your lands if you have to, just like the EU can restrict british access to the EU market. It dosen't change the fact that referendum has to be done in Nigeria.
I'm not gonna kick out the Igbos out of my land because I'm not the one that wants out. Igbos want to leave so they should show us they are serious by moving back to their land. You can't claim to not want to be in the same country with someone else yet every day of the week you and your kins move in large droves into that same place you claim you hate.
You are obviously not serious

This should serve as a pointer to the fanatics and zombies of "one Nigeria". Referendum is a democratic instrument of letting people decide their sovereignty. No union is a permanent thing, no marriage is final. Therefore, if any of the ethnic nationalities that Lord Lugard forced into the illegal Union called Nigeria in 1914, such as my fellow Igbos, want to leave as a separate country, they should also be given a referendum
but in spain catalian has been longing for such also which they are not been listened to,bro i sppt ur motion bt just want to know more

I see some "one Nigeria" zombies viewing thread but too ashamed to comment.

Dismembering/restructuring of Nigeria next. If our colonial masters can do it, why can't we? Britain no longer have the moral right to say Nigeria have to stay as one.

Fortunately or unfortunately, you are right. And Nigeria cannot be like the proverbial ostrich. We, like our former colonial masters must rise and determine the way to go in this marriage called "Nigeria" since it is no longer workable.

The far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders congratulated the UK on its decision, and called for a Dutch referendum on EU membership.

“We want be in charge of our own country, our own money, our own borders, and our own immigration policy,” he was quoted as saying in a statement on his website.

No reason to leave, absolutely none. Just some lazy id1ots who blames every one but themselves for their woes. The U.K economy is doing fine, unemployment was at all time low and the pound stronger than ever but with this ill-thought decision by these lazy id1ots who mainly rely on state benefits to survive just destroyed the once Great Britain.

You are not serious, did Scottish park their things and go back to Scotland before the referendum, they can only leave when they have their own country, the same happen in South Sudan, they left Sudan after the referendum, the people of Isreal also left Europe when they have the Zionist State of Israel in 1949, If Igbos move back to their land which government will take care of them, if they have their own country they can move back and have a government that can cater for the displace people and also they will have a government that carry the new country ahead and integrate the mass influx of returnees.

You obviously have a problem with rationality. The overwhelming majority of igbo citizens in igboland just like in the UK wants out. They have expressed this in civil protests time and time again. The opinion of citizens in igboand is what matters.
There are british citizens and companies all over europe who don't want brexit, that didn't stop britain from voting out.
Conduct a referendum in igboland, and if the ones you believe are in your land and are pro- Nigeria are more than those that are not, then there is nothing to fear. Majority will always carry the day.

It dosen't matter. As long as they have the power to express their mind anyway.
Most people that vote for politicians don't even have concrete reasons for voting. But they are allowed to vote all the same.
They are cerebral enough to express their mind without intimidation.
it's likened to a nation voting a lunatic in as president, just because he's handsome, but not aware of his psychological conditions

It seems that the only language our corrupt and selfish leaders /rulers have come to understand is violence, hence the resort to violent tactics to twist their arms. When you make peaceful change impossible, violent change becomes inevitable. I pity!

What has your current president done with the confab , which was more or less a form of referendum that was put together by respected ethnic leaders in Nigeria? He sent it to the dustbin.
A country where citizens were shot at for protesting for their right to independence is the same country you expect to follow the path of legislative lobbying like the united kingdom.? I wonder the kind of education the south west dishes it out to its people. You are either an unscrupulous human being or not very rational.

In 2013 David Cameron an advocate of Remain promised the people of UK Leave/Remain referendum on EU which was carried out yesterday, the people voted to exit EU.

But in Nigeria some people go haywire whenever they hear Biafra referendum as if their lives depend on it.

Did you hear any of the two sides threatening to burn down and kill anyone that oppose them?

Very sad news today as UK made a historical approach to leave the E.U. undecided they lost billions of pounds in the market at the moment and their economy will surely slammed down. This is such a big catastrophe indeed in history of UK.

All you people equating the EU to the Nigerian situation should do a little research and understand the difference. Nigeria is a federation, the EU is not. At best, the EU is a confederal system. A distinctive feature of federalism is d repudiation of secession. Do u see Texas having a referendum to secede from the US?

You are wrong. Whether EU or Nigeria situation it doesn't matter. What matters is the people. A country is what it is because of the people in it. If the people say they want to leave they should be allowed to and not threatening them with war.

Whether Nigeria is a federation is not the case but what the people within this federation wants.

Does federation equate to slavery? Does it mean people can not speak out on what they want because of a so called federation?

People make a country, people make federation so therefore people should still decide what they want.

Kapish!!!
